“Take a Few Hundred Years Off”: Megan Rapinoe Made a Stern Request to Men Back in 2019

Megan Rapinoe is known in the sporting world for two things: being one of the most prominent figures in women’s soccer and being fearless. This midfielder has made headlines time and again for being unapologetic and calling out the sexist and biased practices in her sport. Through her social media pages too, Rapinoe aims to achieve equality and seeks to help out the not-very fortunate coterie. 

Back in 2019, Rapinoe appeared in an interview with a news publication. Here, she opened up about her thoughts on the main issues causing inequality. Safe to say, her words were pretty bombastic. 

Megan Rapinoe talks about equality

Rapinoe talked about the concept of equality in sports, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, or sexuality. Rapinoe had been vocal about social issues in the past as well. Even to counter the rise in alleged police brutality cases in America, she demonstrated a unique gesture of support to the protestors by kneeling during the national anthem. 

When asked about her motives behind those, she said, “It’s not really an issue of whether police brutality exists or not, or whether racism is still an issue or not. It very much is and I think it’s foolish to say it’s not.” Notably, she was also quite vocal about equal pay for both men and women players.

Rapinoe argued that women’s soccer as a  sport deserved equality. She stated that according to her logic gender pay gap and gender discrimination fueled each other.

She ended her discourse with a unique and frankly daring statement. Rapinoe said, “It’s like men have run the world for all these years, maybe they should just take a few hundred years off…and we can just take it for a few hundred years and we’ll see where we are.”

Rapinoe and her social media stances are unique 

Megan’s social media is dedicated to creating a better world, and equal living space. She is vocal about any sort of indiscrimination and is not afraid to criticize political figures and decisions. But, this does have a few downsides.
