Is Noah Lyles' attitude hurting his reputation more than his performance on the track?

Being the best often comes with its downsides, and Noah Lyles, one of the world’s top athletes, knows this all too well. Despite his remarkable achievements, he faces a lot of hate from various people. While some have specific reasons for disliking him, others don’t provide any. Erin Brown falls into the latter category. He recently appeared on the Ready Set Go podcast with Justin Gatlin and Rodney Green. There, the Grand Canyon athlete talked about his dislike for Noah Lyles which seems to stem from nothing.

He said, “When it comes to Noah Lyles like I’m gonna just say as a sports person, I’m not a fan of him. It’s just pretty much that like I’m not a fan and in any other sport it’s like we can, we have our favorite athletes And, we have the athletes that we don’t like and he’s just, he just happens to fall into that category. I just don’t like him as a track guy.”

He also went on to say that he didn’t have anything personal against him. But will still root against him. “I don’t like him when he race, I’m going to root against him and just things like that.” This is also not the first time the athlete has shown hatred towards Noah Lyles.

In February, Erin Brown dropped a diss track on Noah Lyles named “Step Sons”. There, he talked about all the controversies the athlete has gone through. Erin accused Lyles of using the name of NBA players for clout in the song. However, he seems to have somewhat distanced himself from it and said the song was solely meant for entertainment. “It’s nothing too major I mean I made you know this song to just entertain the people.”

It does seem like Brown has been making these tracks to increase his social media following. During the same podcast, Rodney Greeen said that despite his disdain, Brown still congratulated Noah Lyles when he won the 100m race. However, he is still a part of a long list of people who have shown hate towards Noah Lyles. The biggest example being the NBA community.

Noah Lyles and his huge beef with the NBA organization and players

During the World Championships in Budapest, Noah Lyles was on top of the world. He had just won gold medals in both 100m and 200m category. While answering questions in the press conference, he suddenly made a statement about the NBA and it’s wrong use of the term World Champions. “World champion of what? The United States? Don’t get me wrong, I love the US – at times – but that ain’t the world,” Lyles said. This attracted him a lot of hate from not just basketball fans but also their players.

Is Noah Lyles' attitude hurting his reputation more than his performance on the track?

Have an interesting take?

Kevin Durant, two time NBA winner, commented on the Instagram post of the interview saying, “Somebody help this brother.” His former teammate, Draymond Green said, “When being smart goes wrong”. While Phoenix Sun’s Devin Booker posted a facepalm emoji. However, the fans took it to another level. They decided to root against him in the races he competed in Paris, despite him being a favorite to get the gold medal for the nation. Even NFL player Tyreek Hill chimed in saying that Lyles was a big mouth and he would defeat him in a race.

Despite this, Noah Lyles managed to bag the gold and the bronze in Paris. Obviously, the US basketball team filled with NBA players also won the gold in their respective competition, making it a happy ending for all. The fight between Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill seems to heading for a settlement in the track itself with both athletes being keen to race. It’ll be interesting to see what happens there.
