A victim of overtraining syndrome (OTS) in the past years, Team USA’s Simone Manuel has clinched her way to secure her first gold in the TYR Pro Series, after her extended comeback. A two-time Olympian swimmer, she secured 2 golds in 2016 Rio and a bronze at the 2020 Olympic Games, and now after a hard time with her illness, she has resolved to find her right place in the sport.

After the 2020 Olympics, all her performances indicated a sharp decline due to fast heart rates, unusual muscle soreness, and prolonged fatigue, which had also started to take hold of her mental health. Taking a five-month gap from swimming, Simone Manuel recovered right and is now back to dominating the sport with her commendable upskills.

Simone Manuel makes a great comeback with a TYR Pro Series record

The 27-year-old predominated the 200m freestyle by making a 1:57:80 record in the 2024 TYR Pro Series. Held in Westmont, Illinois. Though she won the first title with a bare minimum of 0.01 from the Brazilian runner-up, Maria de Oliveira da Silva, Simone Manuel clinched a clear triumph from the 2023 U.S. champion, Claire Weinstein (third), who scored a 1:58.08.

Also affectionately known as ‘Swimone’, she is the face of USA’s women’s sprint and a legend in the making. Simone Manuel is the first Black American woman to be a swimming gold medalist at the Olympics. Aiming to continue her legacy, the NCAA multiple title bearer is in serious pursuit of a bid to the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

Swimming her way to the 2024 Paris Olympics

Ranking eighth in the US in the 200m freestyle since last year, Simone Manuel has inched her way closer to the Summer Olympics by outperforming in the TYR Pro Series. She will now be seen competing in the 4x200m freestyle swimming relay at the Olympic Trials in June.

Urging to recreate the history that Simone Manuel had made in the 2019 World Championships in the 4×200 free relay with a 1:56:09 score, her eyes are all set for the upcoming Paris Olympics. In her latest update from the 100m held just before her record-making 200m swim, Simone Manuel scratched a 1:01.32 in her 100m fly, which was the 16th fastest swim of the morning.
