Swimming legend Michael Phelps, who has won a staggering 28 Olympic medals, once shared how the moments when he was suffering from depression still help him in motivating himself and it?s really interesting to listen to.

Michael Phelps is popularly considered to be the best swimmer of all time. He is also the most decorated Olympian. Out of the 28 medals that he has won to date, 23 are gold, which is absolutely unbelievable. Initially, he retired in 2012 but made a comeback in 2014. He retired for the second time in 2016.
Michael Phelps shares how one needs to remember the tough times!
Phelps shared in an interview with Jay Glazer how his past experiences have taught him a lot. Talking about the difficult times that he has gone through, he said, ?Not wanting to be alive. I hope I don?t wake up.? Phelps shared that these were the thoughts in his mind during those times!
Moving forward, he shares a terrifying experience that he went through. He said, ?For three days I didn?t leave my room, didn?t eat, didn?t drink anything.? Phelps shared that he confined himself to a single room for three days straight without food and water, which could have been dangerous. But thankfully, he came out of it unharmed.
Phelps also shared that one needs to learn from such experiences, which he did, too. He shares, ?We have got to think about the hard times that we have gone through.? Phelps gives a message that people should never forget the tough times that they might have gone through, as that gives motivation.
Phelps is a philanthropist!
Phelps is well-known for his philanthropic activities. He set up the renowned Michael Phelps Foundation using his $1 million bonus from Speedo. Phelps is also a part of the board of Medibio, which is a company focused on the diagnosis of mental health disorders.

It was really interesting to get some insights into the struggles that stars like Phelps go through, since these parts of their lives are not commonly discussed. People usually just notice their success, but not their struggles. Hence, it would be nice going forward to hear more such experiences from Phelps.
