“Thank God He Had Long Fingers”: Michael Phelps’ Mother Recalled The Nerve Wrecking Moment In One Of His Matches During Career In Her Memoir

The Phelps family stole the show at the Beijing Olympics 2008 when Michael Phelps won 8 gold medals, breaking all records. Debbie Phelps thinks it was all due to Gran

The Phelps sisters and momma Phelps were crying and jumping in amazement after witnessing the win. “Thank God he has long fingers!” said Debbie, and Hillary replied, “No, that was Gran behind him pushing him to the wall.”

The mention of Gran reminded Debbie Phelps of an event in Athens where Micheal out-touched Ian Crocker. Ian Crocker was placed fourth and told Michael Phelps that he must have a guardian angel looking over him.

This win was not the only miracle in Phelps’ career. Debbie recalled another incident when she was dismayed to see Michael throw away his cap and goggles after winning. She later discovered that it was not an act of immaturity; rather, he had been swimming blind.
