In July 2023, surfer Griffin Colapinto became the first American to secure a qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Having earned 3 WSL Championship Tour event wins and risen to the top of the world standings in May, the opportunity came rightly deserved for the Olympian. However, as he proceeded further down the path of elation, an injury hurdle awaited Colapinto.
A couple of months after his Paris Olympics qualification, Colapinto was obliged to undergo hip surgery due to an injury he sustained earlier in the year. The aftermath of the surgery has pushed the youngster into a long road of recovery and physiotherapy. Nonetheless, Griffin Colapinto, with his determined sight has grown to embrace the challenges his situation presents.
A firm mindset for the surfing champion

Griffin Colapinto recently made an appearance on NBC Los Angeles, talking about his training for the Paris Olympics. While most find recovery training as just another requirement, Colapinto has grown to see the path as a means of becoming a better self. “When I found out I ripped my labrum it was just like, I just gotta do this. I was kinda excited about it. Because, there’s like new types of training, and every day is about going in on yourself, becoming a better person, becoming stronger,” he says.
Griffin Colapinto earned his second Olympic qualification when he finished the WSL Championship Tour 2023 ranking 3rd. “A goal I’ve had since the beginning of the year and I’m proud I reached it!” the icon wrote on making it to the Paris Olympics. Now in hopes of fulfilling the goal, Colapinto has been staunch and running by his motto of finding confidence from training.

Happiness en-route Paris Olympics
Mental well-being has been as much a part of Griffin Colapinto’s training as physical. The youngster revealed that he starts his day with meditation. “I am able to overcome myself by going inward,” he says about the practice. He further indulges in cold plunge and physiotherapy, giving a ‘110%’. Keeping up with the routines, Colapinto’s doctor reveals that he will ‘definitely be prepared’ for the Paris Olympics.

Griffin Colapinto represented the States in the Tokyo 2020 last games to land a 9th position. Today fetching the opportunity yet again, the surfer doesn’t just want to make his worth at the Paris Olympics, but also find his happiness as he moves along. “I am still having fun every day. Feeling good every day. I am finding different ways to get my happiness,” he states. The surfing at Paris will take place in Teahupo’o reef pass, Tahiti, starting July 27th.
