Tony Hawk has delivered some of the most unbelievable performances in skateboarding. His exceptional skills have made the audience jump out of their seats. But, with the thrill of skateboarding, there comes a much higher level of risk. Athletes usually make peace with injuries and bounce back after some time. However, some injuries are not limited to physical damages but also impact the psychology of a player. Tony Hawk had a similar experience to share. 

Graham Bensinger released a compilation video of athletes discussing their worst injuries. The video featured the dark phase of the skateboarding legend as well.

Tony Hawk was worried about his body after the pelvis injury

Graham Bensinger asked Tony Hawk about the worst injury of his career. Tony recalled the time when his pelvis was hurt while practicing. “My worst injury was a broken pelvis”, he immediately replied. He also explained how most people don’t take their abdomen region seriously and end up hurting it. “So much of your movement is based on your pelvis,” he added.

Tony had to leave the board for half a year. He said, “It took me 6 months to start skating again.” Tony further revealed that the psychological implications of the injury were more severe than he expected. He developed a fear in his subconscious mind. Tony’s confidence in his skills took a hit. He started questioning, “What if I hit my hip again?”

Tony’s body started feeling very fragile to him. He kept fighting his fears and eventually got over them. It took him a whole year to gain confidence in his skills. “It took me a full year to gain my confidence back to doing tricks that I used to take for granted”, he accepted. He didn’t perform his magical 900s stunt for a long time after the accident.

Tony Hawk has dominated the skateboarding sport for a long time. He has a long list of injuries that forced him out of the sport, but every time; he made a strong comeback. A few months back in March 2021, The 53-year-old icon revealed details of his gruesome injury in an Instagram post. Tony had broken his femur bone while skating. However, he was confident about making a comeback.

In his long, flamboyant career, Tony had seen many such phases. He had bounced back from the injuries. His 12 consecutive world champion titles and 15 Xgames medals are the proves of his dedication and commitment.
