Teen skaters have always dominated the X Games with their top-notch tricks and fearless performances. This month the X Games were organized in California and saw 30 young participants competing in various skateboarding events. Among them was a 14-year-old prodigy who amazed the crowd with his exceptional skills and landed himself a well-deserved medal. Despite his impressive performance, the judges awarded him with a silver medal, sparking outrage among fans who believed he deserved gold.
Gui Khury started skateboarding at the age of four. In the brief time that he has been training, Khury has participated in the X Games eight times, winning the gold twice. This was the teenager’s fresh attempt to win the third gold at the competition. The fourteen-year-old skateboarder has three Guinness World Records to his name. The first one he won as a ten-year-old was when he became the youngest participant in the X Games. Next year he performed the 1080 spin on a vertical ramp, and finally, at age 12, he became the youngest X Games gold medalist. The Brazilian skateboarder also likes to spend his time surfing, wake boarding, and snowboarding. Khury has long admired skateboarding legend, Tony Hawk. Speaking to USA Today Sports, he said, “Tony inspired everybody, and personally, he inspired me so, so much. When he landed 900, I just said, oh, I wanna do that”. And that’s what he did at the 2023 X Games in California.
