The last time Simone Biles was online, she posed a simple question to her fans: “are y’all done yet?” The answer to that question is, ‘No, they are not.’ The holiday season is a time for love and family. It’s a time for new beginnings. But just as Biles and Jonathan Owens were getting ready to begin their married life together properly (considering they spent most of the past eight months apart), Biles’ fandom wasn’t ready to let go of the past. A past that concerns their idol’s husband and a few controversial statements he made recently.
The newly wedded couple made an appearance on The Pivot podcast, where the Green Bay Packers safety was asked how he managed to “pull” Simone Biles. Owens cheekily replied, “How’d she pull me? That’s the question,” which didn’t sit well with the four-time Olympic gold medalist’s fans. They further antagonized Owens after he said, “I always say that the men are the catch [in a relationship].” However, the online hate didn’t stop Biles from ringing in the holiday season with an Instagram post.

A carousel of bright and lively pictures captioned, “MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎁❤️,” portrayed how the couple spent their Christmas. From a photo of them in matching PJs, sharing an intimate kiss to enjoying strawberry-flavored drinks with candy canes and opening presents. The post was the definition of love and happiness. However, the comments were a battleground between love and hate, good and bad.

Simone Biles’ “first married Christmas” with her “catch” had mixed reactions
When Simone posted the “are y’all done yet?” update on X, a fan advised, “Just log back in after the New Year cause this isn’t stopping anytime soon.” They were right, but Biles isn’t one to back down, now is she? Just like her and Owens’ “unbothered” Instagram post, Biles returned to social media all guns blazing. But so did her fans.

Jonathan Owens has made a name for himself in the NFL arena, having played for the Houston Texans and now, the Green Bay Packers. But one fan looked past his career, focusing only on Biles’ astonishing achievements. “Here is the most known and respected athlete in the US… and there is her husband by her side.”
Considering Biles’ fans aren’t the biggest fans of her husband after the statements he made, one of them commented, “Merry Christmas to Simone Biles only.”
During their appearance on The Pivot podcast, Owens mentioned how he had no idea who Simone Biles was until they started dating in 2020. Referencing that, another fan wrote, “Not sure who that man is, but I do recognize the legendary Simone Biles!”
Another Instagram user referenced the NFL player’s “catch” comment while noting how legendary Biles’ achievements are, writing, “Look, it’s the most decorated US gymnast in US Olympic history! And her… catch?”
Amid all the Owens antagonism, many fans showed their support for the couple as well. When Jonathan Owens commented, “First married Christmas,” a user replied, “@jowens Congratulations! You are a beautiful couple!”

Since they got married in April 2023, Biles and Owens have shown nothing but love and support for each other. But ever since that podcast, it’s like Biles’ fans have turned against not just Owens but also their marriage. Calling out all the people doing so, one supporter wrote, “Imagine being so miserable in life that you find joy in trying to destroy a happy marriage.”
Seeing how cute the couple looked in their matching, Christmas-themed PJs, sitting in front of an unconventional white tree, another fan commented, “We love matching PJs!”
There’s no doubt that, despite spending the first few months of the marriage apart because of their sporting schedules, they’ve been looking out for each other. They’ve been taking care of each other. A fan acknowledged that and wrote, “@jowens continue take care of our girl, Simone. Merry Christmas. 🥂God bless y’all.”
