In the gymnastics realm, Simone Biles is a name nobody messes with. At the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the all-round finals are underway. As the talented gymnasts pulled up their socks for their terrific displays, the queen faced a worthy rival. After her missing her opening leap series connection of her beam routine on the sixth day, she prepared for a level-pegging bout, but didn’t quite stand out in the first rotation, leaving the stadium baffled.
The gymnastic queen would be achieving her sixth all-around world title if she wins this time. However, the night is long. With a wobbly start, the deserving Algerian Kaylia Nemour kick-started the night strong. Her unfortunate shift from her national team seemed difficult at first, but the African all-around champion clocked 15.200 points and outshined Biles’ 15.100.

Kaylia’s World Championships dream looked fragile
The 16-year-old gymnast faced a hard blow this year, as she got diagnosed with osteochondritis. Having the doctors performing back-on-back surgeries on her, the gymnast’s career dreams looked far-fetched. To add to that, her nationality change issue landed her in a difficult situation. Her trainers suggested that she’d be eligible to change her nationality because her father was born in Algeria, and she did so last spring. ?Kaylia Nemour?s coach hasn?t been able to get his FIG license transferred to Algeria, as it looks like the French federation is blocking it'”, a post read.
Furthermore, ?This would mean that Nemour would have to compete at worlds without her coach’ asserted her misfortune. Later on, a petition was filed to support her in representing Algeria. Even though her World Championships dreams looked slim, over 6000 people’s signatures confirmed her spot.
