The former US gymnastics team member, MyKayla Skinner has run through the ups and downs to get her hand on Olympic silver on vault. The shifting decisions and challenges, however, prepped the gymnast for whatever life held after retirement. According to Skinner, the stance particularly extended to her transition phase into motherhood. From labor to growth, the journey entailed difficulties.

On September 21st, early this year, MyKayla Skinner and her husband Jonas Harmer welcomed their first baby. Charlotte, now three months old, however, did not make it easy as she entered the world. The gymnast, loving and fighting through it all, revealed her journey of struggles.

In one of her blogs, MyKayla Skinner chose to talk about the ‘birth of Charlotte’. The Olympian reveals that while delivering the little one, there were complications pushing for unforeseen decisions. But though Skinner got through bravely opting for a vacuum, the journey next wasn’t as easy as people make-believe. “Transitioning into motherhood has been incredible, and hard…with lots of tears. You’re not given a manual. And each baby is so different,” Mayla begins. And for Lottie, it was the case of Colic, a condition one of 4 babies are born with.

“Would cry and scream and be uncomfortable from 4-5 hours, two times a day. She was miserable, we were struggling because not many things soothed her,” MyKayla recalls. However, ultimately, it was her previous presence at gymnastics and support around that helped her get through. Respect, discipline, and hard work made the base of the two domains for the gymnast.

Though she considered motherhood the hardest thing, she finds the journey incredible, accompanied by her gymnastics experience, support from loved ones, and of course the existence of the little one. While the latter two remain known, the former poured an influence unforeseen for Mykayla Skinner.

The gymnast credits the Olympic appearance

In 2021, Skinner made it to the Olympic team through her excellence on the vault. But what came next wasn’t exactly what the gymnast had envisioned. While she roamed elated by the opportunity, the rules stated that only 2 per country were allowed on Vault. Mykayla, disappointed but not having given up stayed to extend her support. That was when Simone Biles stepped back from the apparatus due to ‘twisties’. Biles encouraged Skinner saying ‘there was no one else she’d rather have competing’ but Mykayla.
