Late last year, Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens witnessed their relationship being defined and scrutinized by the community online. “I always say that the men are the catch,” Jonathan Owens, the Green Bay Packers safety had remarked on the Pivot Podcast alongside not knowing who Biles was. A spree of brimming responses then came the duo’s way, filled with criticisms and narratives. However, as the two stuck through and the dust settled, the trial floated on, sparking a response from the NFL star months later.

“People judge you and they don’t have a clue about my character,” Jonathan Owens stated during his recent appearance on Steve Nelson’s podcast. “If you like ask anyone about me… I like try to be a genuine person,” Owens further adds.

He also iterated that his ‘catch’ comment had been “made jokingly,” but people took it otherwise and built misconceptions around it. The packers’ safety also ensured to clear the air on not knowing who Biles was. He reveals that the two were just hanging out and Simone Biles “Never bragged about the magnitude of her success,” adding to his lack of knowledge because of his packed schedule.

Simone Biles’ success is often attributed to her excellence at the Rio 2016 where she clinched her first Olympic gold. The spectators thus cite the instance as an argument against Owens’ lack of familiarity-statements. However, from the NFL player’s view of things, 2016 was around the time of college football camp, one wrapped in tight schedules. 

“I wish people would see that viral schedule that came up. 6 a.m to 11 p.m. You are doing stuff all day. I don’t have time, I didn’t cable,” he offers. Nonetheless, going head over heels for each other, months into their Raya matchup, the two have showcased none mattered, sailing well into their relationship.

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens’ relationship has been one to envelop mutual respect, learning, and love. The two have constantly expressed the aforementioned stance on challenging instances; individually or as a team. Owens, new to the fame as an NFL player and Biles’ boyfriend, reveals did not know how to navigate through. He adds it was the gymnastics queen who helped him embrace and overcome with her demeanor. “She helped me transition into the spotlight,” he states. “The way that she handles it is I just watch her you know she just she has her times.”
