Having started gymnastics at the age of 5, Simone Biles‘ coach Cecile Landi moved to train at Club Gymnastique Saint-Giniez at 9. Though her professional gymnastics career ended in 1999, she still cherishes her friendships with her fellow former gymnasts. However, as recently, one of her gymnastics acquaintances passed away, Landi took a moment to pay her heartfelt tribute.

Cécile Canqueteau’s gymnastic connection dates back to the 90’s, when she came in touch with compatriot gymnast Laeticia Mazerbourg Fleury. They both shared a close-knit bond and shared the same passion for flaunting the incredible routines on the mat. However, on 21st December, Laeticia Mazerbourg Fleury left this world for her heavenly abode, and as her loved ones mourn her demise, Cecile Landi also expressed her condolences.

Simone Biles’ coach lost a former teammate

Laeticia Mazerbourg Fleury, a former teammate of Cecile Landi, passed away on 21st December. Following this, Simone Biles’ coach penned heartfelt note in eulogy and gave condolences to the family. Her Instagram caption reads, “Rest in peace, Fleur. It is with great emotion that I learned of Laeti’s passing. I will cherish great memories of her. Such a special friend and teammate who left way too soon.”

Landi paired the caption up with a beautiful video compilation, illustrating their beautiful bonding moments over the years. The pictures expressed a nostalgia and the moments that Landi shared with her teammate. In some, they were seen posing in gymnastic gears, whereas in others, they were enjoying some hiatus by the pool.

She concluded her video by writing “Sharing for her husband, children, family and loved ones. I offer you all my deepest condolences. Lovingly, Blindfolded.”After the passing of the former gymnast, her family gathered to bid her a last goodbye.

According to the obituary posted by the Fleury family, it reads that their dear one breathed her last on December 21, 2023. As she passed away at the age of 43, her family arranged the funeral service on December 27, 2023 at the Saint Joseph Church in Saint-Laurent-du-Var (06700).
