Rebeca Andrade had one of the best outings at the Paris Olympics this year. Touted as the arch-rival of Simone Biles, the Brazilian gymnast lived up to the expectations fully. During the all-around finals, the world held its breath as Andrade almost toppled Biles, dashing her redemption dreams. While that did not happen, Andrade clinched four gold medals overall. 

Coming in just behind Biles, Andrade claimed the all-around silver medal. She then secured another silver in the women’s individual vault and a bronze in the team all-around final. However, her crowning achievement came when she clinched the gold medal in the floor exercise final. As expected, Andrade received a hero’s welcome, and her fame skyrocketed soon after.

Unfortunately, all the merry rides suddenly came to a screeching halt when an unexpected controversy hit Rebeca Andrade. Daiane Dos Santos is someone who has been idolized by the Brazilian gymnast since childhood. Recently, the Globo Sports commentator unfollowed Andrade. Eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice this and soon, it became a full-blown controversy. 

Recently, to put an end to the brewing feud, Andrade followed Daiane Dos Santos back, shutting out the trolls. This move was proof enough that the rumors were baseless and the duo never actually had any feud going on for real. She also hinted at focusing away from the unwanted controversy by posting pictures in leotards, as she gears up for the upcoming gymnastics season. As a matter of fact, Andrade has been in awe of Dos Santos as a child. Considered as a legend in Brazil, Dos Santos has appeared in three Olympic games(2004, 2008, and 2012). Thus, there was very little chance that Andrade would have anything against her idol without a solid reason. 

In fact, soon after the rumors of the feud broke, it was Andrade who contacted Dos Santos to clarify if anything was wrong. Well, in reality, it was an honest mistake on the part of Dos Santos. Without having much tech knowledge, the former Brazilian unknowingly stirred up a huge controversy. However, soon after the rumors were out, Daiane Dos Santos addressed the issue with her honest explanation.

Daiane Dos Santos did not let the controversy spread much. After the initial rumors, Dos Santos immediately cleared the air about what exactly happened. She said, “Before you start these little things, these little arguments that people sometimes like to invent and argue about, I thought it would be better to come here and explain what’s going on. Nothing is going on. We get along really well, I admire each other a lot, and we’re still together. I’m following you back, and I think it’s Instagram’s fault.”

Andrade, too, has been vocal about Dos Santos’ influence in her life. During a recent presser, the Olympic gold medalist recalled her past days and stated, “I understand how important it is to have a role model. Daiane dos Santos was a lot like that for me.” She further stated looking at Dos Santos competing at the Olympics, Andrade fancied about attaining a similar glory. Surely, she did go on to live her dreams and what’s more, she has even bettered them. Thus, setting the scores straight, Rebeca Andrade is expected to continue her merry gymnastics run forward as a busy season approaches.
