LSU gymnastics has had a spectacular season so far into the year. Following a strong start against Ohio and then a better one against Kentucky, the Tigers continued the excellence today as they took on Arkansas Razorbacks in a top-10 showdown. With 198.475 on board, the team added multiple records, captivating an audience of over 12 thousand who cheered along with the gymnastics talents.

For the past two times that Arkansas and LSU Tigers have gone against each other, one has emerged to etch a record. This time around, it was the gymnasts in purple and yellow to recorded program-high and presented a new score for the teams to beat this season. The occasion of excitement called for celebration from LSU gymnastics stars and enthusiasts alike.

A “complete performance” by LSU gymnastics

The last meet had offered an unlikely upset for the LSU Tigers as Missouri triumphed with a 0.100 margin. Let down by the performance, head coach, Jay Clark had promised betterment and they delivered with a spectacle. Senior, Haleigh Bryant remained a star for the night as she led the team in three events, adding a perfect 10 on the floor. Further along, freshman Konor McClain led on the balance beam with a near-perfect score of 9.975, equalling it once again on the floor. Sharing the triumph on Instagram, LSU Gymnastics wrote, “Talk about a Tiger’s Win.”

“The main goal was to get a good performance, a complete performance, out of ourselves,” head coach Jay Clark said following the performance. With the score, LSU once again became only one of the two gymnastics teams to break the 198 mark, the other being, No.1 Oklahoma. They now stand 5-2 overall and 2-1 in SEC. With so much added to the board, LSU fans couldn’t help but share their elation.

Fans join in on the celebrations

The last record set by the gymnastics program was in 2015 when 198.375 was recorded against Minnesota. Today after securing the best almost a decade later, LSU fans couldn’t contain excitement. “Historic Night,” one of the fans pointed out. Referring to the persistent lead, another wrote, “And they graded tough tonight, too. Unbelievable.” Though speculations flowed around the sections, one of them cut in to comment, “They killed it.”

Further, as praises followed along, the gymnastics stars themselves joined in to cheer on. While Sierra Ballard wrote “WERE AWESOME,” Aleah Finnegan added, “INSANE,” in response to LSU Gymnastics’ post. Wrapping up the emotions one dropped, “GREAT JOB TONIGHT GIRLS!!!!!” The Tigers have never won a championship in the history of the gymnastics program. After landing 4th last year and proceeding well today, fans only hope for a similar spectacle down the road.
