With the conclusion of the Apparatus Finals Day 1, the gymnastics arena beamed with the greats of the sport. As the men and women shared the same podium for their exhibits, it’s hard to say who outdid whom. The US Team looked promising with Fred Richard and Khoi Young in it. While the former graced the floor routine, the latter stood out on the Pommel Horse. After the Pommel King Max Whitlock got off, it was time for the others to shine.

Khoi Young scored a 14.966 earning a silver for himself right behind Ireland’s Rhys McClenaghan(15.100). Moreover, the team’s performance was on par with his expectations. Having anchored the US Team to clinch team silver, Khoi candidly spoke to Thorpe about his experiences.

Gymnastics Now took to their ‘X handle to post a video featuring Khoi in his natural self. Rocking the silver medal. Khoi spoke humbly about his successful bouts. The post reads, “Khoi Young is departing his first world championships with two medals after his silver medal winning performance on pommel today! Hear what he had to say!” Boasting his adorable cornrow braids, the 20-year-old Stanford gymnast said, “Just soak it all in and come out with a couple of medals, not a bad addition.”?

When asked, “Was pommel ever on your mind for medal potential?”, he replied confidently. Young said, “Absolutely. I know I’m one of the best in horse in the US.” But when asked about his views on being the second best in the world, he instantly denied saying, “Not at all. I think it’s gonna take a couple of months for me to realize that the team even got bronze. yeah, I don’t even know.” Having debuted on the global stage, the gymnast’s pommel routine caught attention.

Young’s thrilling display

Whitlock was the second competitor, followed by Young as the third competitor. During the last portion of his routine, Whitlock faced a major difficulty. For the six-time Olympic medalist, it was an uncommon error. As a result, he only received a 14.300 leaving the podium for the younger generation.

Young then performed, much to the delight of his American teammates, who were stationed nearby in the grandstand cheering the entire drill. Young won a second silver medal in Antwerp, adding to his team’s bronze in the team competition.?As the second-last day concluded with a bang, the last day awaits some exciting displays as well. The qualified gymnasts are now all set for their upcoming trip to Paris.
