Could another skill name by Simone Biles be evident in the offing? It surely looks to be that way on grounds of her recent gymnastic maneuvers in the practise sessions. But the gravity-defying tumbling routines have not always stood in her absolute favour, though she made them look easy every time. Now, as the 2024 Paris Olympic is nearing, she might have some surprises in store.

At the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the 26-year-old had achieved the feat she aimed for. Landing a clean Yurchenko double pike, the Olympian had claimed her fifth skill name, Biles II. But according to her recent stories, the gymnastic practice sessions gave a glimpse of another stellar show, but there’s an underlying fear as well that isn’t quite allayed yet.

According to her Instagram stories, Simone Biles was on a posting spree. With back-to-back routines, she looked in the eye of her rivals to announce another history to be made. But the most interesting thing is, her second story featured her performing in the Amanar vault, which had been troublesome in 2021. With a subtle ‘!!!’, she attempted the Yurchenko 2.5 (Amanar), which gave her ‘Twisties’ at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Since that event, her coach Laurent Landi wasn’t ready to permit her, but he did now. From the video, a back handspring, followed by a layout with two-and-a half twists, the landing of the Olympian wasn’t gold worthy. But keeping her passion and unmatched dedication in mind, it would be no surprise if she earns top scores in the Olympics. The following story was of her “weakest event”, the uneven bars. She captioned it as “if only”, while Zoe Miller cracked up watching her.

Concluding her gym stories with another vault display, the Olympian moved on to Christmassy feels. But a little fear of acing Amanar is lying within, since the history isn’t pleasant.

Entering the world of certainty, the 26-year-old felt her body getting disconnected from her brain. She halted at 1.5 twists, despite having thought of pulling off a 2.5. In an interview later that year, she had said, “I had no idea where I was in the air. I could have hurt myself.” The one who performs the hardest skills out of all gymnasts didn’t stop at facing the setbacks alone.

She instead chose to share her story to alert her fellow athletes while attempting a double-twisting double tuck dismount off beam. She had voiced, “you have to be there 100 percent or 120 percent because if you’re not the slightest bit, you can get hurt.”
