Male gymnasts stepped foot on the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship mat on September 30. The event is underway and Belgium is all set to witness some fierce showdowns in the coming days. Among the gymnasts, is a 27-year-old American, known for his flare work, who had once delivered a clean 14.366 pommel horse routine to commence the men’s Olympic team contest in Tokyo. Yet, the 2023 edition of the Worlds began with rather a bumpy start as the gymnast’s contention fell under examination.
As the Rotation 1 of Subdivision 3 kick-started, the stars lined up. Yul Moldauer, the Seoul-born, groomed in the US, took his position at the pommel horse routine. Little did the 11-time NCAA champion know that his not-so-smooth landing will grab media attention.

Gymnastics Now took to their ‘X’ handle to post Yul’s maneuver in the PH routine. With 4 Pan American Championships gold medal in 2022, the pommel horse performer faced a little setback at his signature moves. A score of 12.666 left the 2018 Male Athlete of the Year worried ahead of the tough game.
Yul Moldauer (USA) PH: Might've put his hand on the horse while doing his mount on the pommels? If he did, it was quick. Swing into his mount is stilted and almost doesn't get around and up to handstand. It was muscled for sure. 12.666.

However, Yul Moldauer’s significant title clinch early this year tells a different story.

Men’s title clinch at the 2023 Winter Cup
Yul Moldauer won the men’s all-around title at the 2023 Winter Cup Challenge in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday (24 February). Moreover, the big win helped him move past his sadness from not being selected for the United States’ World Championships team last season. He earned a total of 85.342, leaving Asher Hong and Fred Richards behind.
Olympic medalist from Tokyo, Moldauer got things going on the horizontal bar with a 13.500. In the second rotation, he switched to the floor exercise and recorded a 14.400 for his routine, which also included a Randi and a trapped Arabian double half-out. Following that, he recorded scores of 13.357 for pommel horse, 14.144 for still rings, and 14.250 for vault.
