History is often made and rewritten when an event as grand as the Olympics raises its curtains. Being a sporting spectacle, a fair share of that history is understandably taken over by the sportspersons. However, on some occasions, happenings beyond the sporting arena also make it to the pages of it. The island nation of Bermuda recently witnessed one such moment of glory even before it set foot in the Parisian arena for the Olympics 2024.
Etienne Wolffe, a graduate of Warwick Academy, Bermuda, recently became the first Bermudian to be selected as an Assistant to the National Olympic Committee [NOC] of the North Atlantic British territory. The NOC Assistants constitute an important part of the team. They spend time in the village and at venues supporting and assisting athletes, officials, guests, and support staff. Wolffe is presently a first-year student at the University of Ottawa in Canada. The Bermuda Olympic Association recently announced the significant news setting the Olympic tone for the nation.

The youngster will work to ensure a hassle-free experience for delegations and VIPs of his nation. He will also act as a liaison between the delegations and the INASGOC for any inquiries. Furthermore, educating athletes and enthusiasts about the Paris Olympics’ regulations and values will be another integral task on the list. A befitting selection for the role
According to reports, there were 300,000 applications received for 45,000 volunteer positions at the Paris Olympics 2024. Being selected from the ‘sheer volume of applications,’ Wolffe expressed shock and gratitude. However, it seems that the organizing committee may not have dwelled much, given the capabilities of the youngster.
