The Alpine Skiing World Cup 2023?24 season came to an abrupt close on its second day. The Rettenbach glacier was covered in a dense fog that made it difficult to see anything presenting a significant obstacle. Prioritizing the safety and well-being of the skiers, the race organizers were forced to make the tough decision to cancel the event. In a rare turn of events, over 70 skiers were unable to perform causing an unheard-of disruption in the season’s schedule.
However, just before the unpredictability of Alpine skiing was officiated, the conditions gave some amusing moments to its spectators. One of which saw this year’s giant slalom winner losing his gear midway!

The competition for the coveted Crystal Globe between Lo?c Meillard and the powerful Marco Odermatt heats up as the Alpine skiing season gets underway. Meillard emphasizes the value of consistency and said, ?The objective of the summer was to succeed in gaining consistency in this.? Meillard has some remarkable ranks (he placed sixth in the 2022/23 general rating and won the Giant World Cup), but he had no clear expectations heading into the season’s first tournament in S?lden. He added that he’s ?simply trying to give the best of ourselves over two rounds.?
Meillard has faced difficulties in the past on S?lden, where his best result came in fifth in 2020, but he is optimistic because he knows the track has promise. The competition between these two extraordinary athletes on the biggest platform in the skiing world is something that fans were excited to see. However, the development of the day’s competitiveness took a rather unusual turn.
