The Gangwon 2024 wrapped its day 2 on the 21st of January and it was a win for 3 nations on the day. The Olympics witnessed a total of nine medal events across 6 sports on the second day with Italy rising to the top. 3 medals on the board and for the day and the hosts of the next edition were in for a treat. However, the ultimate piece was for Italy’s 17-year-old rising alpine skiing star to savor.
Alpine Skiing, Luge, Biathlon, and more framed the schedule for day 2 of the Gangwon 2024. As rising athletes from across the globe put their best foot forward, Italy, France, and Türkiye took home the triumph. However, for Camilla Vanni from the former, it was a double win with a gold and a warming love from the family.

The Olympic Games handle on X took to the platform to share a clip of a heartwarming moment between Camilla and her parents. As the alpine skiing prodigy stood on the podium post her first Gangwon 2024 victory, her parents hid in the crowd ready to surprise their little one. “The things we do for family,” the Olympic Games post read, tagged along by the wholesome moment. “It was a surprise. I wasn’t expecting this,” Camilla can be heard saying in the video. “But I am very happy because they are the people that always supported me the most.”

According to Olympics.com, The 17-year-old wasn’t expecting to gain her gold medal on day 2. A few errors had the youngster convinced that Gangwon 2024 wasn’t going to be hers. But with a win and her parents’ arrival further, it was a surprise-filled day for the alpine skiing star.

A gold for the youngster at Gangwon 2024
The Gangwon 2024 women’s Super-G was held at Jeongseon High 1 Ski Resort on Sunday. The Cortina d’Ampezzo native posted the fasted time in the event on Apollo 4 and 6 slopes. While the initial race proved well for the 17-year-old, he experienced a minor error during the final setting. Nonetheless, reaching the finish with 53.54 seconds clock, Camilla Vanni took home the gold; only 0.07 seconds ahead of Eva Schachner in second. “I can’t believe it… I wasn’t expecting that because I made some few errors during my race,” Camilla says. She further added that she was disappointed when she saw the minor margin to her victory but she had learnt her mistakes nonetheless.

Super-G and Downhill have been Camilla’s focus for now because her skills match the discipline better. However, she hasn’t given up on slalom yet. “I am not so good at it but I am still working on it,” she says. By the time Gangwon 2024 transitions to Milano-Cortina 2026, the 17-year-old might have some more skills and accolades up her sleeves.
