The Paris Olympics 2024 is filling the air up with excitement each passing day. The anticipation of athlete and roster selections contributes well to the atmosphere but not wholly. The year’s Olympics has once again brought about celebrations not just for sports but for the art of culture alongside it. To put it as the establishment does, it is an aim to ‘create connections between art and sport’.

Following the uneasiness the pandemic situation offered the Tokyo Olympics, athletes, and enthusiasts have eagerly awaited the arrival of Paris 2024. And to no one’s disappointment, the organizing committee has persistently worked to build up the environment. ‘Cultural Olympiad’ has been one of these measures, calling upon communities’ participation. And today the team has more to unveil.

Paris Olympics unveils exhibition not to be missed

The Paris 2024 handle on Instagram recently took to the platform to offer a clip of an exhibition combining sports and fashion. A glimpse of the showcase presented the mannequins adorning various garments in representation of sports. Badminton, soccer, gymnastics, boxing, and more could be seen taking a new imaginative form as intended by the designer. “An exhibition labeled #OlympiadeCulturelle not to be missed in 2024!” the roughly translated caption reads. It further revealed the title translating to “‘Fashion and sport, from one podium to another’ by Sophie Lemahieu.”

One can catch up on the exhibition starting April 7th at Musée des arts décoratifs, Paris. The exhibition comes as a part of the Cultural Olympian or ‘#OlympiadeCulturelle’ which has been accumulating artworks since 2021. The program will run until the end of the Paris Olympics 2024, aiming to have the audience engage with the ‘art and sport’ concept.

Olympism’s cornerstone

Paris Olympics 2024 explains the concept of ‘muscles and mind’ put forth by Pierre de Coubertin. According to the committee, the tag acts as one of Olympism’s cornerstones. The concept births from the broader concept of inclusivity, diversity, and enrichment. Concerts, performances, exhibitions, dance shows, films, workshops for all ages, and celebratory parades will offer a crossroad between sports, art, and the Olympics according to Cultural Olympiad.

Les Traceurs was one of the shows that opened the Cultural Olympiad at the Musée d’Orsay on September 16, 2023. It was further followed by Clotilde Jiménez. “For centuries, there has been a strong connection between athletics and art which testifies to a human desire for physical fulfillment and creative expression. Through his collages, Clotilde also highlights the diversity of the Games and of France,” the idea read. Hundreds more have already announced their presence and more will follow with the Paris Olympics 2024’s arrival. Entertainment in all forms for culture and sports will find a spot during the Games’ precedence.
