Who doesn’t like a little bit of luck, right? Whether it’s crushing it on the ice or finding the one you want to spend forever with, it’s all about those sweet moments. Now, picture yourself being an NHL team captain, playing outstanding and, on top of it, marrying your soulmate. That is precisely what Connor McDavid has on his hands. On January 27th, the Oilers captain came back from a three-game suspension and immediately got back to business, scoring a goal in the Oilers 4-2 win over Seattle Kraken at home in Rogers Place.

After being suspended for that infamous cross-checking incident with Vancouver’s Conor Garland, McDavid made sure his comeback was memorable, tying the game at 2-2 with a slick rebound goal early in the second period. But it is not only his on-ice wizard that has made McDavid’s life pretty fabulous; his love life is also fabulous, especially now that he has his lovely wife, Lauren Kyle. Following his team’s run to the Stanley Cup Finals, Connor McDavid got married to his longtime girlfriend, Lauren Kyle, on July 27, 2024. This achievement followed a summer of triumph that also saw McDavid receive the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs’ Most Valuable Player. Talk about a summer of dreams, right? Connor and Lauren met in 2016 when they were fixed up on a blind date by a friend, who just happened to be Lauren’s cousin and also McDavid’s teammate on the Edmonton Oilers.

Since then, they’ve been inseparable, even adopting an adorable pup named Lenard in 2019. Fast forward to 2023, and McDavid surprised Lauren with a magical proposal. “Connor told me we had a charity event at a golf course in Muskoka to attend,” Lauren recalls. “As we were on our way to the event from the city, we stopped at our cottage to drop off our dog Lenard… to my surprise, as we got out of the car there was a trail of flowers leading us to a beautiful set-up on the deck.” With a pear-cut diamond ring in hand, McDavid asked for forever, and of course, Lauren said yes!

Then, in the summer of 2024, they sealed the deal with a stunning wedding at Old Woman Island on Lake Muskoka. This wedding was not your typical one day event, it was a ten day event with events such as the ‘Old Money’ rehearsal dinner, the ‘European Summer’ welcome party and the ‘Fairytale’ dinner reception. Lauren wowed in a custom Vivienne Westwood wedding dress, while the couple exchanged vows on a floating dock, surrounded by family and friends.

“An unexpected element of the wedding were Connor’s vows,” Lauren shared. “He is usually more reserved and quiet about his emotions, but his vows were so emotional and heartfelt—it was really special to share that in front of all of our friends and family.” The celebrations didn’t end there. After their ceremony, the newlyweds enjoyed a romantic dinner under a canopy of gauzy white flowers, followed by their first dance to Ben Howard’s “Only Love”—the song that played during their engagement.

And of course, the disco after-party with Loud Luxury. One of Lauren’s favorite memories? The “victory lap” around the island in a wooden boat. “It was so nice to have a moment together; appreciate where we were, and all of the people who showed up to support us,” she said. “We got to really relish in the moment.” Talk about a fairytale! Lauren Kyle is totally killing it in the design world. The Canadian interior designer, who studied at Ryerson University in Toronto, began her career by moving from design house to store before starting her own job, Kyle & Co. Design, in 2019. She’s the head honcho there, shaping the brand’s creative vision as the principal designer. But that is not all – this lady is building a serious empire. While the world was occupied with discussing whether her husband Connor McDavid would remain with the Oilers, Lauren dropped a bombshell on Instagram that got people buzzing. “New business venture well in the works…coming soon, Edmonton,” she posted, hinting at her future projects for the city.

Turns out, she’s got two exciting projects up her sleeve: Bar Trove and Trove Living. In the Instagram post, Lauren was posing in front of the Canadian Permanent Building in downtown Edmonton suggesting that it’ll be incorporated into the new location. She also posted plans of the interior design and previewed the tagline “Curating timeless elegance,” to make it evident she is going to introduce something very classy to the city. Even if she was quiet about the whole story, its obvious from here that this is just the start. Bar Trove is expected to launch in spring of 2025 and we are excited to find out what else she has brewing.

Besides design projects, Lauren recently released a small clothing collection called Sports Club Atelier, inspired by her husband’s NHL team, the Edmonton Oilers. It’s clear that Lauren Kyle McDavid has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. Between her successful design business and new projects, 2025 is looking to be one amazing year for her. Given all that is happening, one is sure that the McDavid’s are here to stay in Edmonton. No surprises there!
