And we’re off to a flying start! The inaugural edition of the 4 Nations Face-Off has been thrilling so far. If the dawn is any sign of the day to come, NHL fans can rest assured that they’re in for more scintillating treats over the next few days. Both the USA and Canada won their first matches of the tournament against Finland and Sweden, respectively, and are now set to face each other this Saturday.

After all teams have played their first games, Team USA is the only side to boast all three points to its name thanks to tonight’s massive 6-1 victory in the Bell Centre. Now, as the team waits to face the neighbors next in Montreal, star winger Matthew Tkachuk is already making his feelings about the upcoming bout known. But how can you make sure not to miss the action when the USA takes on Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off?

Have an interesting take?

In its first match, the Americans showed what they’re capable of with an iron will. But with Canada, it’s certainly going to be a tougher challenge than what the Fins managed to come up with tonight.

The showdown awaits

Looking at the incredible names that are splattered across the roster, it’s easy to understand that Team Canada is easily one of the beefiest rosters in the tournament. For obvious reasons, the USA will need to get its socks up, and fast. But there could be one thing in the Canadian’s blueline to make the Americans smile. But while Shea Theodore‘s injury in the first match against the Swedes is making Canada scurry to keep a standby defenseman ready for any unforeseen situations, the team still has enough names who can intimidate even the fiercest NHL stars. From the Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid, Toronto’s Nathan MacKinnon, and Florida’s Sam Reinhart to the LA Kings’ Drew Doughty and the Avalanche’s Cale Makar: there’s no dearth of talent on the squad. Menacing? You bet it is!

Moreover, before the tournament began, Doughty made it clear the kind of mindset he and the boys would be entering the 4 Nations Face-Off with. “We expect to win, and we’re not going to be satisfied with anything but a championship. I think a lot of the guys in here, we feel that pressure, obviously. But that’s what we thrive under,” said Drew. A pretty clear message, right?

Rightfully, Boston Bruins’ Brad Marchand believes Canada is the team to beat. Citing how the team has a spectacular power-play side, Marchand said, “I would probably put three goalies in the net and just let them try to do the job,” joking that it still might not be enough. But they might have second thoughts now, especially after how the USA trounced Finland without breaking much of a sweat.

Thanks to the incredible performance of brothers Matthew and Brady Tkachuk, the Americans pulled away in the third period tonight. With Matt Boldy and Jake Guentzel providing additional goal support, USA’s fans can also rest easy that Canada won’t get a hall pass this weekend. So, how excited are you for the match-up?
