The sport of ice hockey recognizes Wayne Gretzky as one of the greatest athletes to make a splash on the field. And, interestingly, Wayne Gretzky isn’t the only Gretzky to grace the reverent arena of ice hockey. Wayne’s younger brother, Brent Gretzky is also a well-regarded NHL prodigy. However, the Gretzky siblings never played from the same side. Nevertheless, the Gretzky brothers did share the ice court once, but they both played against each other. 

In the year 1993, The Great One frolicked for his beloved sport from Los Angeles Kings. His younger brother, Brent played for Tampa Bay Lightning. And, being on the rival teams, ignited the competition between the two and hence the Gretzky brothers faced off against each other during the match. Initially, in the 1993 match of Kings vs. Lightning, the Gretzky siblings were not in a play-off against each other. However, Tampa Bay called up Brent as a replacement for their center forward, Rob DiMaio, as Rob was suffering from a broken limb. And, interestingly, it was Brent’s second NHL game.

As per the Los Angeles Times report, Wayne won three of the four face-off rounds against Brent and jokingly stated, “I didn’t want to lose the faceoff; I never would have heard the end of it all summer.Forthwith the match, Brent was completely astounded by his elder brother’s puck-handling prowess and praised him by saying, “I was in awe watching him”. The younger Gretzky further mentioned, “The things he does, even though I knew he was going to do it. We were taught the same things. He just does it at a different level”.

Moreover, Brent believed that his team bagged one of the four play-off rounds, just because the White Tornado let them have that victory. “We had four or five faceoffs together. I think I won one, and I think he let me win it”, added Brent.
