The Edmonton Oilers might have lost the game on Monday night, but there was a victory that took place indeed. The victory belonged to the Oilers’ center and captain, Connor McDavid. McDavid is arguably one of the best players in the entire NHL right now. And, he cemented that image once again, with this stupendous achievement.

In this achievement, McDavid mirrored another legendary player of the Oilers, the G.O.A.T Wayne Gretzky himself. While the Edmonton Oilers fans were a little disappointed after the loss, they were happy for the captain and the achievement.

Connor McDavid completes 50 goals, fans are elated

McDavid sure knows how to score. And he just scored his 50th goal in the season. The Edmonton Oilers, to celebrate the great accomplishment of their captain, posted a congratulatory post on their official Facebook page, and the fans showered love and affection on McDavid in the comments section. One fan was so impressed with this tremendous feat, that they categorized Connor McDavid as more than a mortal, and wrote, “We are meer mortals in his shadow. Unreal.”

Another fan was so emotionally charged after hearing the news that they had to ask themselves, “Why am I crying in the club right now” Clearly, the support for McDavid knows no bounds. Some Bruins fans also praised Connor McDavid’s performance. One commented, “I’m a Bruin fan but I love McDavid. I always say if my Bruins lose out next I’d love to see McDavid win and win in Edmonton but from a Bruins fan congrats on 50 and geez you know he could go on a run and hit 70. Wouldn’t that be special. Anyways good luck Edmonton on your run.”

McDavid indeed showcased an amazing performance on the ice. In fact, his gameplay was reminiscent of a former and extremely beloved Edmonton Oilers player.

The parallels between McDavid and Gretzky

With the completion of this milestone of 50 goals, Connor McDavd has joined big names such as Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Glenn Anderson, Mark Messier, and Draisaitl. Hence, McDavis has become the sixth Edmonton Oiler player to finish with a 50-goal season. However, after Wayne Gretzky, Connor McDavid is the only other Oiler to pull off four straight multi-goal games. While the Oilers lost the game by a score of 3-2, McDavid scored both goals from the Oilers’ side in the match.

His multi-goal performance was the highlight of a wildly entertaining match. The 50th goal was scored in his 61st game of the 2022-23 season. Since McDavid still has many games to go, there have been suggestions that he might complete 70 goals as well. Only time will tell if he will attain that benchmark or not. But for now, what he has managed to do is truly historic.
