The Washington Capitals are a team to watch out for in the current 2024-25 NHL season. Indeed, they have been performing at their peak, with each member of the team demonstrating effectiveness on the rink. However, the Caps lost their recent game against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre, Ontario.

This didn’t generate much in the way of questions for the team, though, as it was an overtime loss, and they tried their best to win the game. However, right after the match, certain rumors surrounded the Caps, especially one of their star goalies. Indeed, the Stanley Cup playoffs are nearing, and many know that they are one of the favorites to secure the trophy, according to an insider’s information, the Caps don’t want any chance to slip away from their hands.

Kevin Weekes came to X, stating, “**Keep An Eye On** With G Thompson now re-signed, I’m told the  @Capitals are exploring a potential contract extension for G Lindgren somewhere between 3.5M-4M AAV.” So what’s the insider up to? Recently, on January 27, the Caps signed a six-year, $35.1 million contract extension with one of their goalies, Logan Thompson. Indeed, since he joined the team, he has been a tremendous asset, and with the Stanley Cup hopes high, why not keep him for a few more seasons?

But what are all these rumors about Charlie Lindgren? Since the Caps are the top contender for the current season’s Stanley Cup, having two of the best goalies in the NHL will be a huge asset for them. Indeed, Lindgren’s contract will be expiring after the 2024-25 campaign. He joined the Caps back in the 2022-23 season and signed a three-year, $3.3 million contract with an AAV of $1.1 million.

Since then, Lindgren has been a big part of the Washington Capitals, and if this contract extension happens, then it will be a huge upgrade for the 31-year-old. Furthermore, why wouldn’t the Caps want him on the team? Both he and Thompson are the two that are at the top of goalie statistics, and keeping this duo for a few more seasons will only gain nothing but respect from the fans.

The Washington Capitals tried their best

Sometimes, there are surprising moments on the NHL’s ice rink. And the game between the Washington Capitals and the Ottawa Senators was something more than intriguing for the fans. From the start of the match, the heat was intense, as none of them scored. Although Ridly Greig put the Senators ahead with a power play goal, Capitals’ Connor McMichael followed with the equalizer. However, Josh Norris and Shane Pinto scored consecutive goals to give the home team the advantage in the second period.

Going into the third period, the Capitals’ Dylan Strome scored. However, Senators’ Jake Sanderson secured a goal for the home team, putting the Caps under pressure as the scoreboard showed 4-2. But this was the time when the Caps made a comeback with goals from Alexander Ovechkin and Dylan Strome. These two goals made the scoreboard 4-4, and the match went into overtime.

Even though many thought that the Caps might actually secure the victory, Thomas Chabot begged to differ. The Ottawa defenseman scored the overtime goal and ended the Caps’ hopes of winning the game with a comeback at the Senators’ home rink. Surely, the team did try their very best, but in an NHL game there can always be one winner, and this time it was the Ottawa Senators.
