Alex Ovechkin has been the talking point in the NHL world of late. The 39-year-old scored the 895th goal of his career against the Islanders and broke Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goal record. It was a long-awaited chase, and Ovechkin finally achieved what felt like the impossible until a few years ago. While the fans truly enjoyed Ovechkin’s historic goal, even his teammates couldn’t stop gushing over the monumental feat achieved by their star player. Subsequently, Ovechkin’s teammate delivered a stunning reaction despite suffering physically.
Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary was playing with an almost broken nose against the Islanders. He suffered the freak injury during the Capitals’ recent game against the Bruins. He was struck in the face by a puck during the third period. Although the Capitals won narrowly, 4-3, it was a bad physical blow to Fehervary.
The star defenseman recovered well in time, albeit not completely, for the historic game against the Islanders. When asked how he felt after his teammate Alex Ovechkin broke Gretzky’s all-time NHL goals record, Fehervary mentioned, “Well, I was bleeding; my nose was almost broken, so I was taking care of my nose. But I was super excited.”

Additionally, other players were also thrilled to have witnessed the historic feat from close range. Interestingly, the game was also paused for 15 minutes, with the NHL commissioner, Gary Bettman, and Wayne Gretzky congratulating the Russian star. Bettman mentioned, “We have all just witnessed history in front of greatness. Wayne, you’ll always be ‘The Great One,’ and you had a record that nobody ever thought could be broken, but Alex, you did it. You have been amazing.”
