“And this one will last a lifetime,” echoed the iconic voice of Sam Rosen as the New York Rangers lifted the Stanley Cup in 1994. It was one of the many memorable moments in what has been a four-decade-long broadcasting career. And now, as his time with the mic draws to an end, a special tribute to his illustrious career will see him teaming up with his former booth partner, who was there with him when the Rangers won the Stanley Cup for the first time in fifty-four years.

Mollie Walker on X spilled the tea, “TNT announces #NYR voice Sam Rosen will reunite with his longtime booth partner John Davidson for a special NHL on TNT broadcast of the Rangers-Flyers game on April 9.”  It’s going to be emotional.

Rosen spent half of his broadcasting career calling the game with John ‘JD’ Davidson, during which the Rangers did not see much success. However, Rosen and Davidson always made sure to make fans smile every game, no matter the result. And when 1994 happened, the broadcasting team made sure that they were very much a part of the celebrations.

Despite Davidson’s wish to be in the Canyon of Heroes during the Rangers’ Stanley Cup victory parade, he and Rosen were having to cover the historic event by looking at the monitors in the studio. That was until a couple of policemen turned up at the set. “There’s a police escort that’s going to take you right here to City Hall,” broadcaster Al Trautwig told them through live TV. “Get out of there.” And as the two reached City Hall amidst the cheers of over a million fans, Rosen, who always knew what to say, was suddenly at a loss for words. “I can’t — this is indescribable,” Rosen said on TV that day. “I’m speechless,” he added.

As the former colleagues are set to take the booth for the last time together, another ‘kidnapping’ seems unlikely. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t be collaborating anymore.

“There’s been talk about maybe JD (John Davidson) and I collaborating on a podcast,” said Rosen as he opened up about his plans after retirement on the New Ice City Podcast. He also shared that his family wants him to write a book. All exciting ideas. But none so exciting as him calling a game in the booth with Davidson. Of the many tributes that have been made in honor of the legendary commentator, this holds a special place, and fans are naturally on board.

Let’s just say that tissues are in high demand because one fan just couldn’t handle their emotions when they described, “Is someone cutting onions in here?”—and honestly, same! In the meantime, someone else admitted, “I saw this yesterday and thought it was a 4/1 joke.” Well, it isn’t.

And then, there are the lifelong fans truly calling it a historic moment. “And this one will last a lifetime! As Sam said during the end of Game 7 of 1994 finals,” one fan recalled the 1994 call, hence proving that words never fade! And to sum it all up, another one expressed, “For all the young Rangers fans who never got to listen to this duo, I hope you enjoy it. I grew up on Sam and JD, and it will be emotional for sure. Great job, @NHL_On_TNT.” Indeed, it’s a journey back in time that Rangers’ fans, young and old, will never forget.
