2023 has been the year of some crazy NHL trades and deals. It’s been one breaking news after the other, and here is another insane signing for all the NHL fans out there. The Buffalo Sabres have extended the contract of the NHL center Dylan Cozens once again. The young NHL player is going to be with the Buffalo Sabers for 7 more years, and his contract got renewed for a whopping $49.7 million with a yearly average of $7.1 million.

The signing has sparked excitement amongst Buffalo Sabers fans as well as Cozens fans, and they all can’t wait to see him in action.

The Buffalo Sabers put the good news on their official Facebook page and the comments started to reflect the emotions of their fans. Dylan Cozens has done some great things while playing with the Sabres, and many people recognized that. One fan commented, “Great signing as this kid is the real deal”. Another follower wrote, “My favorite of this group, grit and a true leader. Great signing.”

Someone even congratulated Cozens’ mother and father for the great achievement of their boy. “Congratulations Dylan, we are all so proud of your achievements…and congrats to Mike and Sue as well, you both deserve kudos for all of the endless time you both spent racing all three boys to soccer and hockey throughout the years, in town and out. 💕” A fan considered Cozens to be a leader and commented, “My favorite of this group, grit and a true leader. Great signing.”

One person had a warning sent out for the other NHL teams. “Awesome!!!! This team is only gonna get better. Watch out NHL especially you Leaf fans lol” Some people also had many suggestions for the new Sabres lineup. One fan commented, “Great signing!!! This team is going to be really good soon. Trade for Meier and put with Cozens and Quinn. Move Peterka to 3rd line with Olafsson and Jost. Really think that would help us immensely.” But the consensus among the fans was that Dylan Cozens deserved what he got.

History of Dylan Cozens and the Sabers

Cozens was first picked by the Buffalo Sabers during the 2019 NHL Entry Draft as their seventh choice. His launch was during the 2020-2021 season and his first game for the Sabers was against the Washington Capitals. While the Sabers lost that game, Cozens has since been progressing consistently with the Buffalo Sabers. In the current season, he has already played 49 games and has an impressive total of 43 points.

Tage Thomson and Mattias Samuelsson are also two NHL stars who recently signed with the Buffalo Sabers. All three of these players are going to come in with renewed contracts this upcoming season. The Sabres are trying to re-invent themselves, and break a very long curse. The Sabers have not made the playoffs since the year 2011. Hopefully, this revamp will get them back on track.
