Tears Worthy Moment Between Grandfather and Fresh Senator Jakob Chychrun Steals the Show in Debut Game

Jakob Chychrun has been counted among the best NHL player for a while now. He started his professional career in the NHL when he was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes during the 2016 NHL draft in the first round. In his first season itself, he racked up a decent total of 20 points. Recently, he became a part of the Ottawa Senators.

His first game as a Senator brought an emotional surprise for Chychrun. When he scored his first goal with the Ottawa Senators, Jakob Chychrun’s grandfather was there to witness the epic moment. And needless to say, he was proud of what his grandson had achieved,

During an after-game interview, Chychrun was shown his grandfather’s reaction to his first goal. The defenseman was immediately touched. He got really emotional upon seeing the huge smile on his grandfather’s face while watching him play. During the interview, he said, “Oh man! You guys are gonna make me tear up. Um, that’s pretty cool.” Clearly, his grandfather’s support meant a lot to him.

Recently, during the trade season, Jakob Chychrun’s future seemed to be a little up in the air. The Coyotes clearly wanted to trade him, but he was kept out of the lineup in some games due to trade-related issues. However, it was finally announced that he was going to be a part of the Ottawa Senators. Many teams were in the run to pick him but it seems like he chose Ottawa because of his sister and his grandfather being present there. It is evident that he wants to be closer to his family.

During the interview, when he was asked if his new reality has sunk in yet, he said, “No, honestly. You know, I think, still gonna take a little bit to settle in here, but, I’m not too worried about it. I just wanna, you know, cherish every day here. See my family as much as I can and win hockey games. So, let’s get started tonight.” His family will probably give him the strength to perform better than ever before.

Fans react to the emotional moment between Chychrun and his grandpa

In the video, his grandpa was seen enjoying some Tim Hortons. When this video was posted on Twitter, Tim Hortons commented saying, “A Sens-ible celebration! Sending our love to Jakob and Grandpa John. ❤️” They were not the only ones to comment, and several fans reacted to the adorable moment. One fan commented, “After all the trade nonsense, I’m legit SO happy for this guy. Look at the joy on his face – he truly ended up where he wanted to be.”

Someone also exclaimed how Chychrun was perfect for the Senators, “The look on his face says it all . He’s home. This team is woven into his DNA. It’s a part of his identity. His family identifies with the history of this franchise. It’s effin’ awesome.” This couldn’t be any more true. When Jakob Chychrun scored a beautiful goal to take the Senators to 4-1 against the Blue Jackets, grandpa John was there to cheer for him in the stands.
