Have you ever been so unlucky that it felt unreal? That’s sort of what Claude Giroux must be feeling at the moment. The Ottawa Senators icon seems to be having a nightmarish 2024-25 season. And no, it’s not from the NHL point of view. In September last year, the NHL star had his Land Rover stolen from the driveway of his Ottawa residence. And now, as his wife Ryanne shared another jaw-dropping update on social media, the fans couldn’t believe Giroux’s bad luck.
Some of us spend our entire lives without getting anything stolen, let alone being robbed of something that’s a utility product. But ice hockey celebrity seems like he’s too caught up in things to help the Senators go up from its fifth place in the NHL Eastern Conference. Justifiably, fans are clamoring for a change in the system.

Ryanne Giroux took to X on January 23 to share with the ice hockey forward’s fans how disaster has struck the family, again. “Good morning to everyone except the people who stole our loaner car,” she wrote in her social media update, but even she seemed more amused by their string of bad luck than being annoyed about it. The statement is followed by a saddening “lol,” that perfectly captures her bewildered emotions about how someone can have their car stolen twice in just four months.

The last time their car was stolen, Claude Giroux’s better half noted her frustration on social media about the police being difficult to reach to draw attention to the matter, and how the thought of getting their car back was also like wishful thinking. Hopefully, this time, things will be different. However, fans believe prompt action must be taken if the Ottawa #28 player is to be expected to give his best for the Senators.
Learning about the latest misfortune that has befallen the Giroux family, one fan commented under Ryanne’s post, “Again? Wow, that’s crazy. Sorry to hear this,” noting their sympathy for the never-ending woes that the NHL star is having to face. The sentiment was reflected en masse by the community and more comments soon started flowing in.
The fans lend a sympathetic ear
“AGAIN???????” another fan noted their flabbergasted state of mind while another fan from Orleans claimed that they aren’t free of such petty crime in their city either. “This needs to change! Sorry you guys are going through this. Is it not a pleasant situation at all,” wrote the fan from the Crescent City. The Ottawa police said in a statement, “The investigation is ongoing,” but Claude Giroux right now might not be feeling too optimistic, especially considering how is yet to get back his Land Rover first.

Another fan thinks the family might have attracted some unnecessary attention to themselves, and should resort to professionals to keep themselves safe. “Time to hire some personal security,” advised the fan, while another speculated if any of the hockey forward’s own teammates could be behind the latest theft. “This has to be a next level locker room prank,” the fan pondered. Honestly, if I had had two cars stolen in a matter of months, I too would have thought it was a prank.
Another simply suggested that Claude and Ryanne should be more cautious about not leaving their car on the driveway anymore. “Time to start using the garage I reckon,” the seems to be amazed by why the family hasn’t thought of this before. What do you think? The Senators will take on the Maple Leafs on Saturday, and how do suspect the car theft to weigh down on Claude’s form? Tell us in a comment!
