The 2023 Honda NHL All-Star weekend is currently taking place in South Florida. And for Dylan Strome, it’s probably going to be the best weekend ever. The talented ice hockey player, in all likelihood, got the biggest news of his career yet.

He has played for teams such as the Arizona Coyotes and the Chicago Blackhawks before. Currently, he just got snatched up, yet again, by the Washington Capitals, captained by none other than the Great Eight, Alexander Ovechkin.

Not only did he get signed by a prominent team, but the deal is for big bucks as well. His contract is for a whopping $25 million and it just got extended by 5 years. This is an increase from his previous average, which was $3.5 million. Without a doubt, a big day for Strome.

According to the official NHL website, the General Manager of the Washington Capitals, Brian MacLellan, said, “Dylan is an intelligent and skilled center and has been a great addition to our organization. We are pleased to sign him to a long-term contract. We feel his skill set is a great fit for our team as he enters the prime years of his career at an important position.”

This signing has also ensured that Strome will in all probability be by Ovie’s side when the Washington Capitals captain finally breaks the record for the most number of goals scored by any NHL player. Ovechkin currently resides at number 2 on the list, with a total of 802 goals. Wayne Gretzky still holds the record with a total of 894 goals.

Strome is Back on Track

The announcement and the offer probably come as a big relief to Strome as well as his fans, as he was a free agent since the Chicago Blackhawks did not make him a qualifying offer after the 2021-2022 season until the Capitals signed him last year. Now, he has cemented his place.

Dylan Strome was first picked up by the Arizona Coyotes during the NHL draft in 2015. He was drafted as the no. 3 pick. After playing around 20 games with the Coyotes, he was then traded to the Chicago Blackhawks. That season, he played a huge hand in making the Blackhawks win 7 games in a row.

After his $3 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, he was then signed by the Washington Capitals for a one-year $3.5 million contract in 2022. Since then, he is ranked in third place with the Capitals, scoring a total of 36 points over 52 games.  Clearly, the team is gratified with his performance; gratified enough to sign him for another 5 years.
