…in utter bliss experiencing this new chapter with our baby girl,” wrote Kate Seguin, wife of Dallas Stars center, on social media after welcoming their newest family member in January. And now, one of his NHL colleagues is also en route to experiencing the world anew with his baby daughter in his arms. And, even though it won’t be a first-time experience for the Oilers star, Evander Kane, it would certainly be as fulfilling as it ever was. Seeing your family grow is always special. Even more so when your baby had to sail over rough waters right after being born.

Naturally, for Edmonton winger Evander Kane, life feels incredible right now, knowing that his newborn will pull through. In an Instagram post from April 10, the NHL celebrity noted his elation about finally being able to celebrate the birth of his fourth child. “Proud to Announce that Mara and I had our beautiful baby girl Penelope on March 4th. After 31 days in the NICU she was finally able to come home last week,” the Canadian hockey star wrote.

Subsequently, he went on to express his admiration for how Mara kept a vigilant eye on their newborn during the troubled times. “We are so thankful that she is finally home, she is having tons of fun with her siblings,” the social media update reads as the 33-year-old NHL star thanked all the doctors and staff who helped them welcome their baby to the world.

Little Penelope was born on March 4 but had to spend more days at the hospital, and justifiably, the Kane household is beaming with happiness right now. “Thank you for teaching me a version of strength and patience that I didn’t know I had,” Mara wrote in a social media update on Instagram. The NHL star’s wife also went on to note her emotions in an interview.

It was very exciting. The kids were beyond excited. They still can’t stop talking about her, and it’s so sweet. I can finally relax knowing that I’m home, I have all my kids around me, [and] I don’t have to worry about them being here or there. It’s definitely been the best thing, [and] the past weekend was so nice, being able to settle in,” Mara was quoted in an article by PEOPLE from April 10. “They’re doting on their baby sister. They’re very curious, and want to hold her hand, and give her lots of hugs, and kisses. It’s very sweet to see,” the Oilers winger said.

While Evander and his family of six settle into their new shoes, they aren’t the only NHL members who are adjusting to a new life.

The NHL community keeps on expanding, even as some take their leaves early

Last year, the hockey world was brought to tears when 7x NHL All-Star player Johnny Gaudreau, along with his brother Matthew, perished after a horrific car crash cost them their lives. Naturally, it was a blow to the guts that was difficult to mitigate for both fans and hockey players alike. At the 4 Nations Face-Off earlier this year, the Blue Jackets winger was paid an homage by his teammates. “We definitely want to win it for them, to honor Johnny and Matthew,” said Brady Tkachuk about what was driving Team USA to win the inaugural international tournament, while also mentioning that Gaudreau’s jersey was still a part of the USA’s locker room.

Classy organization & group of people. John wanted to be a part of this so bad. Thank you for honoring him,” wrote the departed NHL star’s wife on social media after seeing how her late husband’s memory was still alive among his brethren. But while she was understandably left tending to a broken heart, she now has someone to remember Johnny by for the rest of her life.
