As the team’s news went viral on the internet, the community expressed nothing but sympathy for the Capitals.
It’s surely been a special season for Washington, as their captain, Alexander Ovechkin, is on the verge of breaking NHL legend Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record. Heading to the Rogers Arena, the hopes around the Capitals were high, as they hadn’t lost a game for a long time and were on a 12-point streak. Before the Canucks, they faced the Seattle Kraken and completely demolished them with a score of 3-0. While the anticipation was high for the Caps, the Canucks played comparably well.
Indeed, with seven minutes remaining in the first period, the Canucks’ Quinn Hughes scored the first goal of the match for the home team, and it was the only score in the first period. Similarly, in the second period too, Hughes scored once again in the first two minutes of the session. However, in the third period, the Capitals tried their best for a comeback after Pierre-Luc Dubois scored. Despite all their efforts, the scoreboard stayed 1-2, and the Capitals finally lost a game after so long in the NHL.
