If you are an avid Buffalo Sabres fan, you might know that they fell from grace in the NHL. Indeed, the team has seen a lot of highs but also a lot of lows, especially in recent times. The Sabres have hit rock bottom in the current season, being eighth in the Atlantic Division. And even if there’s a break currently, once they return, they literally don’t have any single chance to get to the Stanley Cup playoffs unless some miracle happens.
But who are the fans pointing their fingers at for this situation of the team? It’s the Sabres’ general manager, Kevyn Adams. There have been plenty of promises that have been made to the audience since Adams was assigned this role on June 16, 2020, after the team owners fired Jason Botterill, who had been with the team since 2017. However, even if the current GM has been focused on the team’s rebuilding, the results have been a concern, and recently the fans pointed out a record that Adams will achieve in the current campaign.
Now, this is a statistic that the Buffalo Sabres GM won’t be wanting in his resume. But what’s that? Going to the NHL’s subreddit, username PowerfulPancake567 titled their post, stating, “Sabres GM Kevin Adams can tie the record for longest playoff drought for a GM next season.” And what is their perspective on this?

“If we don’t make the playoffs next year, Kevyn Adams will tie the record for most seasons without making the playoffs for a GM. The current record holder is Doug MacLean, who was GM for the Blue Jackets. He failed to reach the playoffs for 6 straight seasons. I say we keep Adams so we can watch him break the record,” said the fan, expressing their disappointment with the Sabres GM.
Currently, the Sabres have 49 points in the Atlantic Division after playing 54 games, with only 22 wins, 27 losses, and 5 overtime losses. The statistics are concerning, as the team won’t be reaching the playoffs. However, if they continue with this performance and also don’t reach it in the next season, with Adams as their GM, it will be the seventh season that he will fail to deliver for his team.

Sarcastically, the fan wants him to stay with the Sabres to break this unwanted record of former Columbus Blue Jackets GM Doug Maclean. But why is Adams so hated in the community? It’s quite simple, actually. The Sabres GM has hired a lot of young talent on the team, like J.J. Peterka, Owen Power, Jack Quinn, and more. While the fans do love him for this, the team hasn’t delivered any remarkable results under his wing. And the more the issues persist, he will attract more attention to him, which won’t be in a good way.

Not happy with the Buffalo Sabres GM
Criticism is common when you are a general manager for a team like the Buffalo Sabres, which has not been in a good situation for quite a while. One fan is aware of the state of the team, stating, “It’s sad that Buffalo has all that young talent, but yet poor management & ownership is why they aren’t making the playoffs again 😔” Indeed, it’s just a heartbreaking circumstance for many, and another fan stated, “Kevyn Adams needs to go.” This fan had a question, stating, “Why is he still here?”
When was the last time the Buffalo Sabres made it to the playoffs? If the fans have forgotten, owing to their recent form, let me remind you that it was back in the 2010–11 season. Long time, isn’t it? Indeed, it was a good campaign for them, as they had 96 points with 43 wins, 29 losses, and 10 overtime losses.

The veteran fans of the team do miss their old form, and this fan wrote, “Kevyn Adams, save your job. Hire Darryl Sutter. The Sabres need a good a** kicking.” Sarcasm? Indeed, Sutter was considered one of the most demanding individuals in the NHL due to the strict discipline he instilled in his teams. Stressing on the Sabres GM, this fan wrote, “And he will.”
The Sabres fans are waiting on all the promises made by Adams, as it has been a long time. With so much talent they have in the team, they want them to make it to the playoff stages and maybe give the newer fans a taste of what the Sabres used to be back in the day.
