The Boston Bruins are one of those teams that have remained at the top of the NHL standings. However, that is something that is completely not the case in the current campaign, owing to the team’s performances in the regular season games. Indeed, this particular form of the Bruins has frustrated not only their own players but also a loyal fanbase who had looked forward to a strong team in the current season.
Now, that’s kind of falling from grace, and no one’s even denying it. Indeed, one of the Bruins’ legends pointed out the recent downfall of the team and provided an insight that many fans would want to know about their team.
During an interview with NESN’s Adam Pellerin, Barry Pederson provided a clear picture of the Boston Bruins, stating, “Well, I think I would probably echo the sounds and the feelings of the, uh, Bruins fan, which I am one; I know you are as well, which is frustration. Um, I didn’t anticipate this at the beginning of the year. Uh, not the losses so much but the way they’re playing. Uh, they have completely lost their team identity, which was, you know, solid team defense, great penalty killing, and the power play would be okay. I didn’t expect the power play to be dead last almost in the National Hockey League whatsoever.”

Pederson’s first and last team in the NHL was the Boston Bruins, and it is a connection that he could never forget. However, watching the Bruins struggle in the regular season is something that was unexpected to him too, as he could understand the frustration that the fanbase might have built up in the current campaign.
Furthermore, the NHL legend highlighted the problems that the franchise is going through. Indeed, the recent performances of the Bruins have completely lost their identity as a strong contender not only in the regular season games but also in the playoffs. However, currently, getting a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs might seem to be too good to be true for the Bruins.
“What are the Bruins now? They’re six games below or nine games, and the major reason for all that is because you don’t play team defense because you can’t kill penalties consistently, you can’t handle adversity, and now we’re even starting to see before this break some of the games at home where the Bruins have had that opportunity to put away another team, and they just can’t handle the pressure, and they can’t handle the adversity,” said Pederson, giving his final verdict on the Bruins.

There are plenty of issues in the Bruins currently, and as a fan and a legend of the franchise, Pederson is quite disappointed. Indeed, out of the 57 games, they have only won 27 games, lost 24 games, and had 6 overtime losses. But with the 4 Nations Face-Off going on, many Bruins players are spending their time with their respective teams. This also includes their captain, Brad Marchand, who recently caught flames from the community, owing to his comments.

The Boston Bruins captain got blasted for his statement
With the 4 Nations Face-Off going on, Brad Marchand has been looking forward to competing in something else rather than the NHL. Indeed, the Boston Bruins are struggling in the current season, and with almost zero hopes for the playoffs, this break will prove a bit of mental peace for the captain, who will be out of stress.

“Probably since birth, I wanted to be a Canadian guy,” said Marchand when asked about competing with Team Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off. And immediately he got flamed by the community. What about the comments? “Well then quit playing for an American team and sign with a Canadian team in the offseason,” a fan said.
Now, that’s a bit salty from the community. And why wouldn’t they be? The Boston Bruins is an American NHL franchise, and by making these comments, Marchand has triggered a few of the Bruins fans, who are already frustrated with the way the team has been performing lately in the league. The 4 Nations Face-Off break will only last for a week, and the NHL action will be resuming soon. So only time will tell how the Bruins fans on the rink will react, once Marchand wears back his franchise sweater for the rest of the season.
