Who doesn’t love a little star-studded crossover? And when it’s music meets sports? Oh, we’re so here for it! Justin Bieber laced up his skates for a rare public appearance, hitting the ice for Skate For LA Strong, a charity hockey game packed with celebs, NHL players and first responders to support the wildfire relief of Los Angeles in partnership with NHL and LA Kings. With such stars as Ross Lynch, Steve Carell, Taylor Kitsch, and Skylar Astin in the lineup, the event was a perfect combination of Hollywood and ice skating.
It was a single elimination tournament with four teams and one must admit that the competition was fierce. And speaking of heat—The Peaches singer wasn’t just there to skate; he was bringing the energy. In a moment straight out of an old-school hockey brawl, Justin Bieber and NHL vet Jeremy Roenick decided to spice things up and drop the gloves mid-game!

Justin Bieber from the stage to the ice!
B/R Open Ice took to X mid-game to drop a gem—a wild clip of Justin Bieber and NHL legend Jeremy Roenick going full send and throwing hands on the ice. Captioned, “Justin Bieber and Jeremy Roenick have dropped the gloves,” the video showed the duo locked in a good ol’ hockey tussle, swinging until a few players stepped in to break things up. But the best part? Bieber skated away from the chaos, grinning like he just won a Grammy—because, let’s be real, the guy lives for the spotlight, whether it’s on stage or in a hockey brawl!

Of course, everyone is familiar with Justin Bieber as a pop star, but let’s talk about the hockey legend he just threw down with—Jeremy Roenick. Originally selected 8th overall in the 1988 draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, Roenick played for the Coyotes, Flyers, Kings and Sharks for a total of 20 years. And of course, who could forget his stint at the Team USA where he represented the stars and stripes.
With 500 goals under his belt, a shiny 2024 Hockey Hall of Fame induction, and years spent as an NBC analyst, Roenick’s resume is as stacked as they come. But let’s get back to why Justin Bieber decided to strap on his ice skates in the first place – the wildfire relief of Los Angeles. The Kings have been stepping up for this cause long before this star-studded match and have been actively fundraising and mobilizing the hockey fraternity to support the purpose.

LA Kings raise funds for the wildfires!
In January, LA Kings joined other 11 other professional sports franchises in contributing $8 million to the wildfire victims in Los Angeles. Their money went directly to such powerful organizations like the American Red Cross, California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, so that first responders, victims, and even the pets left homeless were provided for. To sweeten the pot, the Kings, the LA Galaxy, and the AEG contributed an additional one million dollars of their own money.

But they did not limit themselves to writing checks. The Kings launched a series of activities such as a donation drive at their home base, the Toyota Sports Performance Center. From fresh toiletries and baby essentials to canned goods and hockey gear, they rallied for fans to pitch in. However, their journey on the road trip through western Canada became a salute tour, where Kings players placed stickers of LAFD on their helmets and patches on their jerseys to pay homage to the fire fighters.

Those jerseys? All proceeds go directly to the LAFD Foundation, and the items were being sold directly through auction. And let’s not forget the merch—custom “LA Strong” and LAFD-branded gear flew off the shelves, all for a noble cause and disaster relief measures. Somehow, the Kings are at it again, this time teaming up the singer, Justin Bieber, with some of the greatest players of NHL to present an energetic charity match.
From the multimillion-dollar gifts to the on-ice performance, they are demonstrating that hockey is not only a sport that is played on the ice but is also about giving back to the community that nurtures them.
