The Washington Capitals vs. Philadelphia Flyers game turned into a thrilling back-and-forth contest. Both exchanged the lead multiple times, till Lars Eller’s goal put them on a level at three goals a piece in the third period. Yet, just when it seemed that the Flyers had pulled the monumental feat of taking the Metropolitan Division leaders to overtime, Jakob Chychrun came up with the answer.

With just under eight minutes left until the buzzer, Chychrun linked up with Taylor Raddysh and John Carlson for an exquisite three-pass combo, leading to the fourth goal for the Capital. The defenseman’s goal turned out to be the final, match-winning goal for the Capitals. Yet, Chychrun scoring while wearing his injured teammate Sonny Milano’s gloves made it even more special.

“I’ve been wearing them all year and in camps and stuff,” Jakob Chychrun told RMNB’s Katie Adler earlier this week. However, there was more to Jakob Chychrun wearing Milano’s than simply paying homage to a teammate who has been out of action since the Capitals faced the Nashville Predators on November 6. It’s also because Milano’s gloves are a perfect fit.

“The gloves I was wearing for a long time, the company went to a different palm factory and I just didn’t like it,” Chychrun told RMNB. So instead of hunting for new gloves, the defenseman opted to play in Milano’s Bauer Ultrasonic and Mach gloves. In fact, both the gloves even have Sonny Milano’s name on them.

As Per RMNB, one has MILANO printed on it while the other has SONNY stitched on the side. And as things stand, Jakob Chychrun won’t have to worry about finding any replacements for Milano’s gloves any time soon. “It’s still a ways away from him (Sonny Milano) getting into games. He’s been out for a significant amount of time,” coach Spencer Carbery said about Milano, who recently earned a contract extension. Fortunately for Chychrun, the gloves have served him well.

Jakob Chychrun has been having a stellar NHL season

Cyhchurn’s winning goal against the Philadelphia Flyers puts him within spitting distance of becoming the second-highest-scoring defenseman this season. The NHL star scored his 14th goal against the Flyers, which puts him in third place and just two goals behind Columbus Blue Jackets’ Zach Werenski, who has 17 goals. However, he’s still far away from the leader.

Jakob Chychrun would have to score six more goals just to draw level with Colorado’s Cale Makar, who has scored 20 so far. However, getting on top of the leaderboard wasn’t Chychrun’s concern when he skated onto the ice during the third period. Instead, it was all about putting the Capitals back in the lead, and the 26-year-old was confident about his team’s chances.

“We’ve had some good third periods this year, so we had a lot of confidence going into the third,” the defenseman said during the post-game interview. And so when John Carlson gave him a ‘great’ pass, Chychrun didn’t hesitate in taking the winning shot. “We just found a way again,” added the goalscorer. So it’s safe to say that despite having changed his regular gloves, Sonny Milano’s pair has turned out to be quite lucky for Chychrun.
