MrBeast makes no effort to hide his love for sports on social media. The very first pinned post on his Instagram page is with none other than soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo. But don’t fret if soccer isn’t up to your speed. The famous YouTuber has collaborated with plenty of icons, such as Tom Brady, Noah Lyles, and more. Now, it seems James Stephen Donaldson has taken an interest in hockey.
New York Rangers fans were in for a good night as the home team put on a dominant display at Madison Square Garden. Among those fans who witnessed the Rangers hand the Islanders a 4-0 loss was MrBeast. Yet, the 27-year-old may’ve been lost in the crowd of Rangers fans had he not sat in the ‘Celebrity Row’ at MSG. That’s because Jimmy was sporting a New York Rangers jersey.
Yet, you may be asking why simply sporting a NYR jersey would make them a fan. Well, X-user @hatesthiscity’s video makes a good case in MrBeast’s favor. The user uploaded a video of the YouTuber making his way to the seat while trying to keep a low profile, pulling up his black hoodie. Yet, try as he might, some fans, including the uploader, spotted Donaldson in the stands.

“MrBeast in a Messier jersey LMAOOO all the kids just tried to run after him,” wrote @hatesthiscity in the caption. For the uninitiated, Messier, aka Mark Messier, is a bona fide NHL legend. With a career spanning 25 seasons, the 64-year-old former hockey pro won not one, not two, but six Stanley Cups during his career. While five of those came with the Oilers, one came with the Rangers.

Although Jimmy is wearing a Mark Messier jersey to a New York Rangers game, it doesn’t conclusively prove he’s a fan, but it certainly proves that the social media icon has done his research. MrBeast has also given other, more subtle nods to hockey in the past. Those interested in buying the YouTuber’s merch will find the Beast Games hockey jersey on Jimmy’s official website. However, the philanthropist’s biggest involvement in hockey so far came in 2023.
When MrBeast donated to a noble cause
When James Stephen Donaldson isn’t hosting his Amazon Prime show or generating hype in track and field by pitting Olympic champion Noah Lyles with fellow content creator IShowSpeed, he’s often making generous donations. The 26-year-old made one such donation in hockey two years ago, in February 2023. However, that donating didn’t have anything to do with the NHL.

Have an interesting take?
In fact, MrBeast didn’t donate to pro hockey but gave to para ice hockey players. On February 7, 2023, the official Canadian Blind Hockey page posted about the YouTuber shining the spotlight on them. “YouTube sensation and philanthropist @mrbeast sent his team to attend one of our GTA Youth Blind Hockey programs while he was filming his latest video,” they explained in their post.

Canadian Blind Hockey explained that MrBeast’s team spent a day with that program, learning the ins-and-outs of how things work. Yet, that was only the tip of the iceberg, as the social media star “surprised” the young hockey players with new gear. Jimmy proved the entire team with jerseys, skates, and everything in between, rebranded to the “Junior Ice Owls Blind Hockey Team.”
Finally, MrBeast also donated $20,000 for the betterment of the program. “This donation is going to go a long way towards inspiring kids who are blind or visually impaired to strap on the skates and step outside of their comfort zone,” the page explained in their caption. So does Jimmy’s appearance at the NYR game mean he is planning something NHL-themed? Or was just a Ranger’s fan catching their team live amidst a busy schedule? Only time will tell.
