McAvoy shared an Instagram story hours after he was admitted to the hospital. He shared a pic of him sitting in the car. And the overlay text of the IG story said, “Free as a bird.” His appearance outside the hospital was enough to tell that he was good now. And how can he forget his team playing the most important game by not mentioning the Team USA goal song, Free Bird, by Lynyrd Skynyrd!

The Boston Bruins star defenseman McAvoy had a significant shoulder injury on February 18. Team USA’s medical staff stated on February 19, “After undergoing x-rays, MRIs, and bloodwork, he was diagnosed as having an infection in his right shoulder, as well as a significant injury to his AC joint. He underwent an irrigation and debridement procedure at Massachusetts General Hospital on February 18. He remains in the hospital, where he is being treated with IV antibiotics, and his condition is improving.” Meanwhile, NHL.com’s Rosen has updated Team USA fans on Charlie McAvoy’s injury update. “He obviously can’t play because of his upper-body injury, but he is expected to be in attendance,” Dan Rosen said on X/Twitter on February 20.

Special day for Charlie McAvoy but…

The star defenseman has been waiting for this day since his childhood. For the 27-year-old, the 4-nations face-off is everything and reminds him of his dad. In a February 5 Bruins article, Charlie McAvoy said, “Everything around this tournament has brought on a lot of emotions just because I take so much pride in it… Me and my wife, with Rhys, just brought a son into the world. His dad got to play for his grandpa. How incredible that is and just how rare.” McAvoy was the pivotal player in the USA’s win over Canada the past Saturday at the Bel Centre.
