Sunday night saw the Madison Square Garden in New York City liven up by people’s cheers and support. It was the home team New York Rangers vs LA Kings. In what turned out to be a power-packed game of ice hockey, the Rangers eventually came out victorious by a 5–2 margin against the Kings. Despite their memorable performance as a team, what snatched the headlines was what their defenseman K’Andre Miller did during the game. A heated moment broke out during the game, and this is what Miller did. Fans were appalled.

After the incident caught wind, it spread over all media outlets and everywhere on social media. In one of the Facebook posts, fans decided to barrage the comments with their utter disgust about the incident. Here’s what they said.

The Rangers were taking on the Kings and at around the 16:37 mark in the first period, the incident occurred. It was a tackle between Drew Doughty of the LA Kings and K’Andre Miller of the NY Rangers. However, things soon got ugly and Miller was given a match penalty after the referees saw his act during the fight on camera. So what did Miller do? He spat on Doughty. This is how disgusted fans were and the reactions were not too kind either. Here are some of the comments from the Facebook post by Hockey Feed.

“That is absolutely disgusting, send him home for the rest of the year”

“Suspend him for a few games thats f***in gross man. If your unhappy drop the gloves bud”

He doesn’t deserve to be NHL player”

“Spit on a guy in a game that allows fighting. Gutless. Suspension coming. Hathaway got 3 games when he did it”

“Disgusting behaviour 10 games”

“Sounds like he was thinking that he was still playing in pee wee hockey”

At the time of the incident, the scoreline was 0–0. But the Rangers went on to register an emphatic win from there (5–2). However, that act from Miller dampened the night for a lot of fans. Violence often erupts inside the ice rink in NHL.

Just this month, the match between Anaheim Ducks and LA Kings turned into an MMA arena for a large part of the game. However, the referees then showed relatively more leniency. He handed only a 5-minute match penalty for LA Kings’s Phoenix Copley. This drew the wrath of Boston Bruins star Brad Marchand, who criticized the NHL referees for their double standards.

While Miller had a rough night after the incident, Ada Fox and Vincent Trochek had an absolute ball of a night. Fox dished out a pair of assists and Trochek scored twice in addition to that assist. Combined they both led the way for New York Rangers’ victory.
