Recently, the Nashville Predators added a post on their Facebook page with the saddening news. They captioned the post with, “David Poile, the only general manager in the history of the Nashville Predators, announced today he is going to retire. Barry Trotz, the franchise’s first-ever and winningest head coach, takes the reins as general manager on July 1, 2023.” Evidently, June 30, 2023, will be the last day for Poile to work in his role as president of hockey operations.

He led 15 postseason appearances in the club’s 25 years of existence, including the past eight seasons in a row, the second-longest active streak in the NHL. They were making history together until Poile decided to hand over the torch to Trotz.

With Trotz at the helm, fans are now optimistic that he will hold on to the legacy Poile has created. Being with the team through thick and thin for more than two decades was not an easy job. While announcing this news, Poile said, “This is a decision that is best for me personally and best for the Nashville Predators”. He went on, “For the Predators, I believe it is time for a new voice and a new direction. I am proud of the foundation we have put in place in our hockey operations, investing in and improving every area of the department. This is the right time for someone else to move our franchise forward.”
