As per the sources, the league’s take on the possibility faced serious mockery from fans. Furthermore, NHL stated that Florida’s weather remains a hindrance to the open-air conduction of the game. Thus, fans unable to grasp the logic behind it, blow up the comments section with their reactions. Here are some of them:
“I’ll rework your headline for you. “After 48 hour crack binge, NHL decides they want to do an outdoor game in Florida”
“Why would you try to put a hockey game here? We get maybe one week of weather that could work for this, and none of us know when that is, so pre scheduling it is out of the question from the start”
“I’m done, my head hurts just from reading this”
“Playing hockey in FL outdoors is like having the Super Bowl in Siberia. Not the brightest idea.”
“They could do a roller hockey game. It would be perfect with the direction the NHL is going”
“Would be waste of resources”
“Since when hockey is a summer sport lol. Bettman out there reinventing the wheel”
However, quite a few did wonder about the actual possibility of running an outdoor event. One wrote, “well, they did play an outdoor game in 80 degrees before. It isn’t totally out that question,” while another implied that it could be possible doing it. Additionally, this isn’t the first time Bettman is getting trolled by fans.
Fans displeased with the NHL commissioner’s SBJ honor
As per a recent tweet by Sports Business Journal, Bettman received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his 30-year-long legacy as the NHL commissioner. Moreover, his tenure has been the longest in all four major sports leagues in North America. However, the acknowledgment didn’t sit well with NHL fans as they held a critical stance.
Here are some of them:
Congratulations, you turned a fast hard hitting sport into a game where nobody can play as the game is supposed to be played. your protection of the "STARS" has destroyed any real competition in the league.
