Washington Capitals star, Charlie Lindgren has been in much news of late surrounding his heroics. The goalie shocked the NHL world with his jaw-dropping mid-air save during the game against Vancouver Canucks. The 31-year-old caught the limelight despite a poor performance by his team as he defied gravity to save a goal. The save became a talking point in the NHL world, as fans couldn’t believe their eyes. Nearly a month after that heroic move, a massive update dropped about him, which wasn’t taken very well by the fans.
Minutes ago, the Capitals announced that they have resigned Lindgren to a 3-year contract. However, what was interesting to note was the fact that the Capitals will chalk out $9 Million to keep Lindgren for three years, meaning that he will take home #3 Million every year. Despite his heroics a few weeks back, fans found it tough to believe that the Washington Capitals had spent a whopping sum to hand a contract extension to Lindgren.
Talking about the overall stats this season in the league, Lindgren is nowhere to be seen among the top. Take the example of his save percentage. He has just less than 90% in this regard and stands in the 35th position in terms of this stat. Thus, fans vented their frustration at the Capitals for chalking out a big sum to retain their goaltender.

Fans complain about overpay as Washington Capitals tie down Charlie Lindgren
Lindgren joined the Capitals in 2022 and “has consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism and reliability in net,” as per senior vice president and general manager of the Capitals, Chris Patrick. However, even as Patrick justified Lindgren’s valuation, fans felt that the Capitals had got it wrong in Lindgren’s case. One of the fans condemned this and wrote, “this is horrible.”

Further, another fan was absolutely shocked to see that Washington had paid $9 Million to retain their goaltender. Despite average performances ever since he joined the Capitals, a fan couldn’t believe this and exclaimed, “LMAO HOLY OVERPAY.” On the other hand, one of the fans revealed why the Washington Capitals might have chalked out $9 Million to retain Lindgren despite admitting that they had overpaid in his case. The fan wrote, “Knowing the cap ceiling is about to increase and the money about to come off the table from a few contracts ending, I’m ok with this. Overpay, sure. But to have a top 5 tandem under 8.5 locked down, any team would dream of that.”

However, one of the fans accepted the fact that the Capitals had tied Lindgren down to a huge contract. A die-hard fan of the Capitals expressed his emotions, saying, “man…i hope this works out.” Lastly, another fan felt that a solid deal had been made as the goaltender was tied down to another three years with the Capitals. Additionally, the fan also felt that Lindgren would make a good combination with Logan Thompson and wrote, “That’s a very solid contract for #ALLCAPS A goalie tandem of Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren totaling $8.850M. That’s impressive.”
