As the NHL regular season goes in full swing, fans want the cream of the cupcake – the NHL trades and updates. The organizers confirmed the NHL trade deadline for March 7, 2025, and all 32 teams must take decisive action to trade unsuitable players and secure a stronger future. Major NHL trade news broke after an NHL Network reporter revealed significant updates. Thus, fans scurried through the internet to get some information regarding the update.

NHL national reporter Elliotte Friedman conversed with experts who inquired about Brock Boeser. Drum roll… Vancouver Canucks would not extend Brock Boeser’s contract and trade him. Therefore, Friedman had his say regarding the matter.

The insider said, “I think with Boeser, I think the issue there is for the Canucks’ term. I don’t think they really want to go past five years. Now, when someone says they really don’t want to go past five, I always wonder, okay, if they can get to six, is there something with six that could work both ways?”

Boeser had signed a three-year $19,950,000 deal with the Vancouver Canucks in 2022, which is about to end shortly. He had 18 goals and 17 assists and remains a valuable part of the franchise. Yet, Canucks think otherwise!

Elliotte Friedman further said, “I think the Canucks are in a situation where their preference is to stay around five years on Besser. The one thing I remember about Vancouver, Bruce, and you know you worked there, is they were nowhere with JT Miller, and then they decided they were going to get it done, and they got it done two days later.”

The NHL insider actually pointed out two important deals the Vancouver Canucks made.

What’s your perspective on:

Will the Canucks regret letting Brock Boeser go, or is it time for a fresh start?

Have an interesting take?

The Vancouver Canucks made a deal with JT Miller in two days and goaltender Kevin Lankinen in one day. According to Friedman, the core issue was the terms in Brock Boeser’s contract extension. “So that one thing about the Canucks- they could decide they want something done, and it gets done,” Elliotte said and continued, “But right now I think there’s an issue with the term, and I believe the Canucks’ preference is to not go past five years.”

But wait for a moment, Canucks fans. There is one more issue no one would tell you in the trade rumors, but Elliotte Friedman would.

The Vancouver Canucks’ real issue with Brock Boeser’s contract extension

Obviously, one part of the issue is his five-year contract extension with which the Vancouver franchise is not jamming in. But the other point we focus on is the playoffs. And that’s what the NHL insider has revealed. Elliotte has stated, “Now, I think the thing right now is, you know, they’re in a playoff spot. It’s close.”

The Vancouver Canucks are currently 58-27-20-11 in the 2024-25 regular season, but their ranking sucks. Brock Boeser’s franchise ranks fifth in the Pacific division of the Western conference. And to talk about Boeser’s stats for this season, he has only missed six games out of 56 games. Reliability matters in this day and age. But that’s not gonna stand in the trade deals to a greater extent.

As the NHL insider emphasized, “Calgary Flames’s right behind them. And all of a sudden now here comes Utah, here comes Anaheim. There are other teams there. I think they want to make the playoffs. And don’t think they want to wave the white flag. I think they could potentially deal with Boeser, but I don’t think they want to make their team worse.”

And that’s where Brock Boeser’s contract leaves an impasse. But let’s see how his trade deals unfold until the NHL trade deadline, which is March 7.
