If there is one thing Paulina Gretzky learned while growing up as the daughter of NHL Legend Wayne Gretzky, it’s how to deal with the attention that came with fame. More often than not, anonymous users ruthlessly troll celebrities and their family members online. Everything these personalities do or share is always up for criticism, irrespective of whether it concerns their professional life or not.

Usually, celebrities ignore negative comments, or even if they do notice them, they choose not to engage. However, Paulina Gretzky isn’t one of them. So when the trolls came after the love of her life, Dustin Johnson, the young actress did not hold back.

Paulina Gretzky lashes out at trolls

In 2016, golf was included as an event at the Olympics for the first time in 112 years. However, golfer Dustin Johnson, who ranked No. 2 back then, had decided to not participate in the event. A few days after his decision was officially announced, his fiancé (now wife) shared a photo of them on her Instagram. The photo seemed to be from a vacation, and that didn’t sit well with some of the critiques.

One user sarcastically commented under the post, “Thanks for competing on our Olympic team.. Oh wait the lake was more important.” The comment, however, did not go unnoticed by the eldest Gretzky child. It is to be noted that Johnson had initially made the decision due to the Zika virus outbreak in the host country.

Gretzky had to censor herself every step of the way

Being a star kid has its own perks and downfalls. The downside for Paulina was the lack of freedom to be herself or express herself in a public space. Paulina has gone on record to share her struggles of growing up as the daughter of the ice hockey legend.

The actress had to constantly be mindful of her words and actions, as she felt that they would instantly be linked to her father. She added that in order to fit in and be accepted she had to censor herself. However, even after the limitations, Paulina made sure she did not miss out on anything. She just had to pay a bit of extra attention.
