The Boston Bruins’ latest loss has not gone down well with fans at all. Of course, getting dominated by your divisional rivals would elicit such a reaction. This, coupled with the trade of former captain Brad Marchand, makes it like the Bruins constantly have disaster on call. Really, it’s difficult to pinpoint a worse period this season than the Bruins’ second period on Saturday, where they were outshot 21-0 and conceded three goals. So yeah, the fans are not happy at all.
With this result, the Bruins have fallen to a 30-30-8 record this season. A tough pill to swallow indeed after their form in previous seasons. Now, the Bruins did seem to have some life heading into the second period against the Lightning after Elias Lindholm finished off a slick pass from Andrew Peeke to tie the game 1-1 with just over four minutes left in the first. But whatever momentum they had disappeared in no time. The second period was a disaster—no shots on goal, just four shot attempts total, and no one made it anywhere near Andrei Vasilevskiy. Meanwhile, Jeremy Swayman was under siege at the other end, facing 20 shots and giving up 3 goals.
Given the results, Elias Lindholm stated post-game, “It was embarrasing. The compete level was nowhere to be found. Unacceptable. The fans pay a lot of money to come here & watch us play. They have every right to boo when the effort was like that. The second period was the worst I’ve seen us play this year.”

Though, Boston did show signs of life early in the third when Marat Khusnutdinov fired a shot through traffic that trickled past Vasilevskiy just 23 seconds in, cutting the lead to 4-2. But any hopes of a comeback were short-lived, as Tampa iced the game with two empty-netters. And well, Lindholm’s words in light of the defeat have not gone down well with the Boston faithful. However, fans are not very happy with the Swedish international; Lindholm signed a $58 million, seven-year contract with a $7.7 million AAV. With such a hefty contract, well, fans expected more accountability from him.
Fans are asking Elias Lindholm to just ‘shut-up’
Elias Lindholm had been on the top line with Brad Marchand all season, and it’s true that he’s having a bit of a season to forget. Fans have taken note, of course, with one writing, “Better of late, but Elias Lindholm has been an AWFUL acquisition. Contract looks awful. What the hell do they do with this guy next year? Drop him to 3rd line center and hope he can at least win face offs and play defense? At 7.7 per?? I’d rather have Coyle for Christ’s sake.” With Coyle gone, the Bruins saddled with Lindholm’s albatross of a contract and his poor returns, the situation looks like nothing will come to fruition.

Another fan had had it with Lindholm too, saying, “This dude should just keep his mouth shut. Sweeney killed the team for a decade by signing him at 30 yrs old to 7 yrs $8m per or with 11 goals = $728k per goal. And he’s talking about the team.” Put that way, it seems beyond egregious to spend so much on a player who has now just about scraped together 12 goals and 24 assists in 68 games.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Elias Lindholm's $58 million contract the worst decision in Bruins' recent history?

Another added, “Finally went back, 1st time since first 3 weeks. 4 ppl, tics, dinner, drinks, beer(s),snacks, parking. Just over $1,000 night.” In this day and age, it’s not the cheapest activity to go watch your favorite team play. And if you’re treated to performances like that, well, that’s hardly getting your money’s worth.
Another fan told the team to just throw in the towel, “Go west and get eliminated next week… No one wants to see this team. Pathetic.” Well, a 6-2 defeat is something no fan can digest, especially after watching their captain being traded.

Looks like the team needs a revamp and reshuffle. As a fan rightly said, “Total revamp next year. Keep Pasta…. Everyone else is trade able.” Earlier, we also heard from the former captain, Marchand, as well as other fans about how David Pastrňák can lead the team.
Whether the Boston Bruins make a comeback with their next game with the Buffalo Sabres will be a matter of time and patience. And also to witness whether Elias Lindholm can turn things around, we gotta wait and watch!
