The internet never sleeps, and neither do NHL fans when they spot a wild social media blunder. The New Jersey Devils admin is currently catching strays after what might be the biggest “oops” moment of the season—liking a comment trashing their own superstar, Jack Hughes. Yeah, you read that right.
On February 21st, NHL News (@PuckReporterNHL) caught onto the chaos when the official Devils Instagram page posted a picture of Hughes, fresh off his 4 Nations Face-Off run with Team USA. All was well until a fan dropped the now-infamous comment: “dude was invisible” Now, normally, that’s just another salty take in the replies, but the Devils page liked the comment! And NHL News threw it on X (formerly Twitter) with “liked by author is crazy 😭”—Boom. Internet mayhem.

Obviously, Devils fans went wild with the gaffe. I mean, how does an official page end up agreeing with a random comment clowning their own franchise player? This isn’t some rookie fourth-liner—this is Jack Hughes. The 1st overall pick in 2019 and basically the future of the franchise. If there’s one guy you don’t want to shade, it’s him.
Also, he was the only player from the New Jersey Devils to be playing at the 4 Nations Face-Off. So, naturally, it didn’t take long for fans to start roasting the Devils admin like it was Thanksgiving dinner. The reactions? Pure gold.

Fans noticed and reacted swiftly!
Everyone was all on it, one fan said, “Don’t be jealous now bc you’re a clown 69 and he’s a worldwide star.” Facts only: Jack Hughes has been carrying like his brother Quinn Hughes. Jack Hughes may not have put up video-game numbers at the 4 Nations Face-Off, but let’s not pretend he’s some scrub. This guy has 65 points in 57 NHL games this season and has numerous personal accolades and records with the franchise. He was also on Team USA’s top line with Auston Matthews and Jake Guentzel. Invisible? Be serious.
Another joked, “Admin is def being put 6 ft under the ice for this.” Yeah, somebody’s job security just went into serious overtime. Considering how fast this blew up, you know they’re scrambling behind the scenes. Jack Hughes is literally their golden child, the same guy who had a 74-point season last year. Liking a comment dissing him? That’s social media malpractice.
“Came here from Twitter, didn’t think it was real,” And well, it’s real. And it’s somehow even worse when you see the screenshot. Hughes just wrapped up a massive international tournament, the 4 Nations Face-Off, where Team USA nearly took down Canada in the final. He played over 16 minutes in the championship game and started on the team’s top offensive line. He wasn’t exactly lighting the lamp, but let’s not act like he was riding the bench.
Reactions like, “Admin is about to lose their job,” and “Admin is def being put 6 ft under the ice for this,” were the most common! The Devils’ social media team might need to start dusting off their resumes.
Now, all eyes are on the Devils’ next move. Do they apologize? Do they pretend it never happened? One thing’s for sure—the fans aren’t letting this one go anytime soon.
