All eyes are on Alexander Ovechkin.  How can they not be? He’s just scored goal no. 895! That’s right, Wayne Gretzky’s record that has stood for 26 years has finally been broken, and we have our new record holder for regular season goals scored in the NHL. While all the talk will be about this momentous occasion, there’s another Ovechkin sparking some attention.

As we celebrate Ovechkin’s achievement, don’t get confused between the hockey star and the doctor. Alexander Ovechkin, M.D., Ph.D., is a doctor and doctorate holder, working at the University of Louisville. He serves as an Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery at the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center. Additionally, he is also the Director of the Adult NeuroRecovery Program and Respiratory-Cardiovascular Core at Frazier Rehab Institute and Neuroscience Center. While the Capitals star, Alexander Ovechkin, may be a multi-talented personality on the ice, his name twin is excelling off it.

Meanwhile, the Capitals star’s family and friends have traveled with him to witness his record-breaking feat. After equaling the Great One’s record, Ovechkin couldn’t control his emotions and said, “I’m still a little shaking and still can’t believe it. It’s nice that my family is here, my mom, my wife, my kids, father-in-law, lots of friends came from lots of different cities. It’s history. It’s great for the game. It’s great to do it here. It’s special.”

I can still say I’m tied for the most,” the Great One revealed, as he lauded Ovechkin for putting up an incredible show. Meanwhile, Ovechkin’s pursuit of Gretzky’s record has also left the ticket prices soaring.
